Wooden Shoes Defeat Bulldogs Friday Night

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes defeated the St. Anthony Bulldogs 51-40 Friday night at the Enlow Center. 

The only contest played in the region was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. A video replay of the game will be up today on our YouTube channel.

A one-for-10 first quarter found Teutopolis trailing the Bulldogs 12-6, but the shots starting falling for the Wooden Shoes from that point. Teutopolis outscored St. Anthony 16-8 in the second quarter and led 22-20 at halftime. It was 33-29 Shoes after three quarters, and Teutopolis outscored St. Anthony 18-11 in the final quarter to win by 11 points.

After that first quarter, Teutopolis made 16 of 29 shots, or 55% including 7 of 16 threes, 6 of 10 in those final three quarters.

The Shoes couldn't shake the Bulldogs, though. At one point in the second quarter, Teutopolis pulled out to a nine-point lead, only for St. Anthony to hit a pair of three-pointers to make it a one-possession game. Teutopolis finally started to pull away in the final period and St. Anthony had to foul to get the ball back. The Shoes made seven of 10 foul shots in the final period to put some space between them and St. Anthony.

St. Anthony made 45% of its shots, 17 of 38, including 4 of 13 threes. The Bulldogs shot just two free throws, making them both. The Shoes were 10 of 14 at the line.

St. Anthony had a problem with turnovers, committing 18 of them to 12 for T-Town. St. Anthony narrowly outrebounded Teutopolis, 23-21.

Brendan Niebrugge led Teutopolis with 14 points, nine in the fourth quarter. Dylan Pruemer came off the bench to score 10 points. Also for Teutopolis: Max Niebrugge 8, James Niebrugge 7, Caleb Siemer 5, Mitch Althoff 4, and Joey Ruholl 3.

St. Anthony's Kyle Stewart led all scorers with 16 points with seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Craig Croy was also in double figures with 10 points. Also for St. Anthony: Max Koenig and Adam Rudibaugh 4 each, and Griffin Sehy and Brock Fearday 3 each. 

Teutopolis improved its season record to 18-7 with a game at home Saturday afternoon against Robinson. St. Anthony is now 14-12 on the season.

Teutopolis won the JV game 56-49. For Teutopolis: Joey Niebrugge 16, Pruemer 16, and Logan Roepke 10. For St. Anthony: Ryan Schmidt 11 and Eli Levitt 10.
