Three area teams will be competing in Seventh-Grade State Basketball Tournaments this weekend after winning sectional championships Tuesday evening.

Effingham Sacred Heart claimed the crown at the Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional.

The Shamrocks defeated Pana Sacred Heart, 46-36. Jude Traub led the way for the Shamrocks with 24 points while Jacob Warner had 16.

Sacred Heart advances to the Class 1A State Tournament at East Peoria Central Junior HIgh School Saturday and will square off against Griggsville-Perry at 11:30 a.m. Sacred Heart is 19-2 while Griggsville-Perry is 18-6.

Effingham Sacred Heart -- Traub 24, Warner 16, Hecht 4

Pana Sacred Heart -- Malishia 13, Blackwell 12, Czaikowski 11

 

Class 7-2A Nokomis Sectional

Stewardson-Strasburg won the championship of the Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Boys Basketball Regional Tuesday.

Stew-Stras edged Effingham St. Anthony, 30-29 for the ttile.

The Bullpups ripped out to a 15-4 opening quarter lead and held a 21-15 halftime tally. Stew-Stras came back with a 10-5 third period to pull within one and then had a a 5-3 final period for the victory.

Wetherall led the way with 10 points for the winners while Bible added eight.

Stew-Stras advances to the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Macon Meridian High School Saturday with a 19-5 record. Stew-Stras will take on the winner of Sectional B, yet to be determined, at 2:30 p.m.

St. Anthony was led by Waldhoff with nine points.

Class 7-3A Paris Sectional

Teutopolis advanced to the Class 7-3A State Tournament with a 35-32 win over Shelbyville in the Paris Sectional Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 18-8 at halftime. Shelbyville came back with a 12-5 third period to pull within 23-20 going into the final quarter but the two teams played to a 12-12 final period.

Jake Kocher led the Shoes with 16 points while Carson Cornell added 10.

T-town will compete in the Class 7-3A State Tournament at Wenona Fieldcrest Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of Sectional 3. T-town is 23-1 on the season.
