CHBC Claims Share Of NTC Regular Season Title, St. A, Altamont, T-town, WSS, Dieterich, C'land Nab Girls Victories

BROWNSTOWN -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City quickly took charge and finished with a 60-36 National Trail Conference girls high school basketball victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo Monday evening.

Gracie Heckert connected for her 1,000th career point and finished with 24 to lead the Bobcats. Heckert knocked in nine in the second quarter and finished with nine field goals, two three-pointers, and four of six at the line.

CHBC held a 16-7 first quarter lead and moved ahead 37-17 at halftime.

Along with Heckert were two other players in double figures. Lani Morrison tallied 13 and Madison Wojcik added 10, eight coming in the second period.

Ruby Stuckemeyer had seven rebounds while Lani Morrison led in steals with six and assists with five.

The Bobcats finished with a 7-1 regular NTC season and stand at 21-4 overall. They can finish with no worse than a share of the NTC regular season title as Effingham St. Anthony has one NTC contest remaining and stands at 6-1.

Lexi Seabaugh led BSE with 11 points.

CHBC edged BSE 33-32 in the junior varsity contest to improve to 9-3. Macee Rodman led with 18. BSE was led by Jayna Ireland with 12.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony put together some big scoring quarters in downing North Clay (Louisville), 59-18 as two National Trail Conference teams met Monday in girls high school basketball competition.

The Bulldogs had a 12-6 opening quarter and led 30-12 at halftime. Grace Karolewicz, Anna Faber and Lucy Fearday scored four points each in the opening quarter. Abbi Hatton took over in the second period with seven.

Finishing in double figures for the Bulldogs were Fearday with 14 and Karolewicz with 11. St. Anthony is 6-1 in the NTC with one conference game remaining. If the Bulldogs win, they will finish with a 7-1 mark and a tie with CHBC for the regular season conference title.

North Clay was led by Czyzewski with eight.

St. Anthony tallied a 32-6 win, playing only two quarters in junior varsity play. The Bulldogs were led by Stacie Vonderheide with 10. North Clay was led by Kincaid with three.

At Neoga

 

Altamont and Neoga played a tough National Trail Conference game the whole way with Altamont coming out a 59-57 victor Monday evening.

Neoga stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead and still held a 29-21 halftime lead. Altamont came back with a 17-11 third quarter run to pull within 40-38. Altamont then had a 21-17 final quarter for the two-point victory.

Grace Nelson led the way for Altamont with 29 points on nine field goals, two of those from three-point range, and nine of 11 at the line. Also in double figures was Peyton Osteen with 13.

Neoga was led by Sydney Richards with 22 points on nine field goals and four of four at the line. Avery Fearday also hit double digits with 15.

Neoga dropped to 5-2 in the NTC and 21-6 overall.

Neoga captured the junior varsity contest, 33-20.

At Breese

Teutopolis edged Breese Mater Dei, 37-34 in Monday evening action.

The Wooden Shoes trailed Mater Dei 11-4 after the opening quarter. The only points for the Shoes came from Kaylee Niebrugge with a three-pointer and Kaitlyn Schumacher with a free throw.

But T-town started to turn things around with a 13-6 second period to knot the score at 17-17 at halftime. Schumacher, Niebrugge and Courtney Gibson scored three each.

Mater Dei came back with a 9-6 third period to pull ahead 26-25.

But the Wooden Shoes got back on track with a 14-8 final quarter for the three-point victory. Gibson scored five while Emily Konkel had four.

There were no T-town players in double figures. Niebrugge and Gibson finished with eight each. Schumacher led in rebounds with 10 while Gibson had five. Niebrugge had four steals while Konkel and Grace Tegeler had two each. Schumacher had two blocked shots.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took the early lead and never looked back in a 50-23 non-conference victory over Ramsey Monday evening.

The Hatchets held a 29-10 halftime lead and led 45-5 going into the final period.

Ella Kinkelaar led the way for Stew-Stras with 22 points on eight field goals that included four three-pointers and was two of two at the line. Samantha Hayes tallied nine.

Dieterich held a 14-12 opening quarter lead but Robinson came roaring back with a 24-13 second period and never looked back.

Madilyn Brummer led Dieterich with 11 points while Kaitlyn Boerngen and Eva Meinhart had 10 each.

Robinson had four players in double figures, Marissa Zane with 24, Elizabeth Shea with 15, Lucy List 14 and Kayelyn Jones 11. Robinson improved to 15-5.

Cumberland put together 65 points while allowing Martinsville only 13 for a 65-13 victory Monday evening.

The Pirates held an 18-4 opening quarter lead as Zoe Mitchell scored nine points and Paige Dittamore six. Then it was Saige Carr's turn in the second period as she connected on three trifectas and one regular basket for 11 points.

Mitchell finished with 22 points for the winners while Carr added 18.
