In the opener at the Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Boys Basketball Regional, Windsor won over Kansas, 46-27 Saturday.

Heath Westendorf was the big gun for Windsor, connecting on seven three-pointers and finishing with 21 points.

In the second contest, Effingham Sacred Heart defeated Martinsville, 43-15.

The regional cotninues tonight with Newton St. Thomas against Windsor at 6 followed by Sigel St. Michael taking on Effingham Sacred Heart at 7:15.

The winners advance to the championship game Tuesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

St. Elmo/Brownstown and Dieterich advanced in the Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Boys Basketball Regional Saturday.

St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Altamont, 44-37 in the opener.

In the second game, Dieterich handed South Central a 29-20 loss.

Dieterich held a 17-12 opening half lead. South Central pulled within two points in the third quarter but Dieterich had a 10-3 final period run.

Lidy led Dieterich with 12 points. South Central was led by Trevan Sidwell with eight.

St. Elmo/Brownstown will now face top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony today at 6:15 p.m. followed by Dieterich taking on No. 2 North Clay (Louisville) at 7:30.

The winners will meet for the regional championship Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Class 8-2A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg advanced in its own regional with a victory Saturday.

Stew-Stras downed Assumption Central A&M, 38-19.

Stew-Stras stepped out to a 10-3 opening quarter lead and had a 16-3 third period run.

Beals led Stew-Stras with 11 points while Sayers added eight. Stew-Stras improved to 13-9.

In the opener, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City saw its season come to a close with a 32-24 loss to Nokomis. Nokomis held a 14-7 halftime lead then had a 12-2 third period run.

CHBC was led by Cosart with 14 points.

Nokomis will face Kincaid South Fork at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday while Stew-Stras takes on No. 2 seed Findlay Okaw Valley at 6:45.

The winners meet Thursday at 6 p.m. for the championship.

Class 8-2A Casey-Westfield Regional

The lone area team in the Casey-Westfield Regional fell Saturday.

Neoga lost to Hutsonville, 50-11 in the second game.

In the opener, Arcola defeated Oblong, 53-20.

Arcola now meets Casey-Westfield at 6 p.m. today while Paris Crestwood takes on Hutsonville at 7. The winners meet Thursday for the championship.

 

Class 8-3A Lawrenceville Parkview

Cumberland picked up a victory in the Lawrenceville Parkview Regional Saturday.

Cumberland, the second seed, won over Red Hill (Bridgeport), 42-27.

In the opener, Jasper County fell to Marshall, 47-37.

The final contest went to Lawrenceville Parkview over Robinson Nuttall, 39-20.

Marshall advances to meet top-seeded Teutopolis at 6 p.m. today while Cumberland takes on Lawrenceville Parkview at 7:30.

The winners advance to a Tuesday meeting for the championship at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-4A Mount Zion Regional

Three games were on the agenda Saturday in the Class 8-4A Mount Zion Regional.

Charelston downed Mattoon, 26-18 while Mount Zion easily won over Stephen Decatur, 42-18. Rochester defeated Taylorville, 36-21.

Today's games feature top-seeded Effingham taking on Charleston at 6 p.m. followed by Mount Zion facing Rochester at 7:15.

The championship is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

Clay City Sixth-Grade Tournament

Newton St. Thomas won the championship of the Clay City Sixth-Grade Tournament.

In first round play, North Clay defeated Clay City 19-13; Cisne won over Edwards County (Albion), 49-17 and Newton St. Thomas trounced Allendale, 42-2.

In the winner bracket semifinals, Cisne downed North Clay 41-10 and St. Thomas won over Olney St. Joseph, 30-7.

In the consolation championship, Edwards County defeated Allendale, 38-9. The third place game went to Olney St. Joe over North Clay, 30-27.

St. Thomas claimed the championship by beating Cisne, 42-20.
