Hearts, Wooden Shoes Drop Girls Contests

MAHOMET -- Effingham High School dropped a girls basketball loss to Mahomet-Seymour in Saturday action, 48-37.

The Hearts stepped out to a 16-14 opening quarter lead as five players scored. But Mahomet-Seymour came back with a 13-6 second period run to lead 27-22 at halftime.

EHS pulled within four points after the third period but Mahomet-Seymour had a 9-2 final quarter run as Cayla Koerner knocked in eight of those nine points.

The Hearts had one player in double figures. Madison Mapes led the way with 19 points on seven field goals that included five three-pointers.

At Breese

Breese Central started out strong and kept going in a 63-34 victory over Teutopolis Saturday.

Central held a 24-11 halftime lead and had a 39-23 second half. Four players scored in double figures for the winners.

Teutopolis had one player hit double digits. Isabella Hardiek tallied 13 points and pulled down six rebounds. Kaitlyn Schumacher had five rebounds. Hardiek and Emily Konkel had one steal each.
