EHS Loses To Mattoon; Dieterich, CHBC, BSE Nab Girls Victories

The Hearts trailed Mattoon 13-9 after the opening quarter but by the same four point margin at halftime, 26-22. The Green Wave had a 14-12 third period and finished out with a 16-14 final quarter.
Mallory Ramage led Mattoon with 32 points on 11 field goals, two of those three-pointers, and eight of 10 at the line.
Effingham was led by Meredith Schaefer with 18 points on six field goals, five of eight from three-point range, and a free throw.
"We had the ball with four minutes left and a chance to tie the score and couldn't get it done," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We played great."

At Farina
Dieterich came calling in a National Trail Conference matchup and tallied a 75-57 win over South Central Thursday evening.
The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 17-16 opening quarter lead behind six points by Cortney Brummer. The lead went to 36-30 at halftime as Kaitlyn Boerngen scored seven points and C. Brummer added six.
South Central kept close on free throws. The Cougars' Brooklyn Garrett connected on six of six in the opening quarter and two more in the second quarter as the Cougars hit 10 of 11 in the two periods.
Dieterich had a 19-15 third period as Boerngen tallied seven more and Madelyn Brummer added six. Dieterich then had a 20-12 final quarter.
Three players scored in double figures for the Maroons. Boerngen led the way with 22 points on seven field goals that included four three-pointers and was four of four at the line. C. Brummer chipped in with 16 and Ruby Westendorf added 12.
South Central was led by Garrett with 24 points and Laney Webster with 20. Garrett connected on five field goals, two of those three-pointers, and was 12 of 12 at the line.

At Strasburg
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed a National Trail Conference contest over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Thursday, 64-38.
Gracie Heckert was the big gun for the Bobcats, scoring 34 points. Heckert connected on 12 field goals, a whopping eight three-pointers, and was two of two at the line. She tallied 13 in the opening quarter, had an eight-point second period and scored 11 in the third quarter. Also in double figures was Lani Morrisoin with 13.
Mady Wojcik led in rebounds with 11 while Hallye Morrison added 10. Heckert had three steals. L. Morrison led in assists with nine.
The Hatchets were led by Ella Kinkelaar with 14 and Samantha Hayes with 10.
CHBC led 31-23 at halftime and had a 33-15 second half.
CHBC also claimed the junior varsity contest, 32-16. Harleigh Bunch, Karlee Smith and Abbi Morganson had six points each. WSS was led by Garrett, Hayes and Martinez with four each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo easily handled Ramsey to the tune of 64-34 Thursday evening.
The Bombers ran off to a 21-9 opening quarter lead and led 36-13 at halftime.
BSE had four players hit double figures. Sydney Stine led the way with 17 points on seven field goals and three of four at the line. Avery Myers scored 13 while Audrey Wilhour added 11 and Lexi Seabaugh 10.
Ramsey's Lillie Eddy scored 15.

Newton played host to Olney and fell to the visitors, 62-27 Thursday evening.
Olney swept out to a 24-7 opening quarter lead. Newton came back with a 13-9 second period but couldn't get on track the rest of the way.
Newton was led by Sydney Dobbins with six points. The Eagles fell to 9-16 on the season and will be back in action Monday at Pana. The junior varsity game Monday begins at 4:30 p.m.
Newton was a 41-34 winner over Olney in junior varsity play. Lilly Kessler and Karasayn Martin led the Eagles with 12 each. Newton improved to 10-3.

Tri-County picked up a victory over host Cumberland, 44-38 Thursday evening.
Tri-County took a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 28-11 at halftime. Tri-County held a 38-20 lead going into the final quarter.
Cumberland came roaring back with an 18-6 final period run only to fall short. In that run, Abbie Becker connected on three trifectas while Zoe Mitchell hit five free throws.
