Newton To Play For LIC Boys Tournament Title

The Eagles edged Marshall 51-50 in overtime. Marshall took a 14-10 opening quarter lead and led 22-17 at halftime. The Eagles came back with a 12-5 third quarter to lead 29-27 going into the fourth quarter. In that period, Ben Meinhart hit for six points. In the final period, Marshall had a 15-13 run to knot the score at 42-42, sending the game into overtime. Parker Wolf and Evan Schafer kept the Eagles in the contest with six and five points respectively.
In the overtime period, E. Schafer scored two baskets and two free throws for six of his team's nine points while Meinhart connected on a three-pointer and the Eagles had a 9-8 edge to win.
E. Schafer finished with 17 for the winners while Wolf added 16 and Meinhart 15.
In the opening game of the evening, Olney won over Robinson 36-29. Olney and Newton now meet for the championship Friday at 8 p.m. Robinson faces Marshall at 6:30 for third place. Mount Carmel and Casey-Westfield will start the evening off Friday with a 5 p.m. contest for the consolation championship.

Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament
The tournament continues Friday and will finish out Saturday.
In Friday action, Cumberland faces Tri-County at 6 p.m. while Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond meets Argenta-Oreana at 7:30 in the consolation bracket.
The tournament will come to a close Saturday. Some finals are set for the tourney.
Decatur LSA will meet Arcola at 7 p.m. for the championship. The third place contest will have Okaw Valley against Cerro Gordo-Bement at 5:30.
The other contests will begin at 1 p.m. with Villa Grove against Blue Ridge and Heritage taking on the loser of the Cumberland vs. Tri-County contest at 2:30. The consolation championship is scheduled for 4 p.m.
