Effingham St. Anthony High School handed South Central a girls basketball loss in National Trail Conference play Monday, 56-29.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 20-15 opening quarter lead as Riley Guy went on a 12-point run in the quarter, hitting five baskets, two of those three-pointers.

Guy continued her hot scoring with three trifectas in the second period for nine points and the Bulldogs moved ahead 37-19 at halftime.

Guy finished with 24 points for the winners on nine field goals, six of those from three-point range. Also in double figures was Grace Karolewicz with 10.

South Central was led by Brooklyn Garrett with 10 points.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity contest, 24-5. The Bulldogs were led by Maddie Kibler with 12 points. South Central was led by Kaitlyn Swift with three.

At Effingham

Effingham hit only seven of 35 from two-point range and was five of 13 at the line in a 47-43 Apollo Conference loss to Taylorville Monday evening.

The Hearts held a 7-5 opening quarter lead but the Tornadoes took a 19-14 halftime lead. The Tornadoes' Addison Tarr connected on four baskets in the third period, three of those trifectas, and two free throws for 13 of her team's 16 points as the Hearts had 13.

EHS came back with a 16-12 final quarter run on Meredith Schaefer's eight points but fell short.

Schaefer led the Hearts with 18 points on six field goals, five of those three-pointers, and one of two at the line. Ella Niebrugge and Marissa Allie scored eight each.

North Clay (Louisville) had a 15-8 final quarter run to pull out a 47-46 National Trail Conference win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Monday evening.

BSE held a 15-10 opening quarter lead and led 24-17 at halftime. The Bombers still held a six-point lead going into the final period. That's when Allison Czyzewski went to work. Czyzewski scored 11 of her team's 15 points in the period and finished with 24. She connected on 11 field goals and two of seven at the line.

BSE was led by Lexi Seabaugh and Sydney Stine with 10 points each.

At Brownstown

At Cowden

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City led the way through the first three quarters but Neoga came back with a 20-7 final period run to pull out a 56-46 National Trail Conference win Monday.

CHBC held a 15-6 opening quarter lead and led 25-22 at halftime and 39-36 going into the final quarter.

Neoga had two players score in double figures. Haylee Campbell led the way with 17 points on eight field goals and one of two at the line. Sydney Hakman tallied 11 points for the winners.

CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert and Lani Morrison with 12 points each. Heckert had nine rebounds and Mady Wojcik with seven. Heckert led in assists with five.

Neoga also nabbed the junior varsity game, 35-29. Neoga was led by Brynn Richards with 11 points. CHBC was led by Macee Rodman with 11.

At Cowden

At Marshall

Marshall came calling and defeated Newton 68-34 Monday evening.

The Lions ripped out to a 24--8 opening quarter lead and led 46-19 at halftime. Marshall's Scott tallied 24 points and Engledow 21 while Sollers added 11.

Scoring for the Eagles were Elle Bennett with eight. Camryn Martin led in rebounds with five. Amber Russell and Alexis Hetzer had four rebounds each. Bennett led in assists with two. Hetzer had two steals.

Newton fell to 3-3 in the Little Illini Conference, 9-14 overall.

In the junior varsity game, Newton won 31-24. Lilly Kessler led the Eagles with nine points. Newton JV improves to 5-1 in the conference, 9-3 overall.

Cerro Gordo/Bement played host to Cumberland picked up a 42-35 Lincoln Prairie Conference win Monday evening.

The Pirates held a 16-8 opening quarter lead but CGB came back with a 13-2 second period to lead 21-18 at halftime. Cumberland had an 8-6 third quarter but CGB had a 15-9 final period.

Cumberland had one player in double figures, Zoe Mitchell with 14.
