THIS DAY IN NATIONAL TRAIL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Jan. 24, 1972—The tournament opens for the first time in its present-day spot on the calendar, after being held for many years in early January. Some 85 of 120 players listed on rosters for the week are underclassmen.
• Jan. 24, 1977—Scott Hoedebecke’s free throws clinch a 64-63 victory for No. 4 Neoga over No. 5 Cowden-Herrick in the quarterfinals.
• Jan. 24, 1991—Bart Willenborg’s free throws with :09 remaining lift top-seeded Effingham St. Anthony to a 47-46 semifinal win over No. 4 Windsor, helping overcome a 27-point outburst from Windsor’s Brian Lee.
• Jan. 24, 2007—Ben Giertz scores 28 points and drains a shot at the buzzer to help No. 6 Stewardson-Strasburg overcome No. 3 Altamont, 59-58, in the quarterfinals.
• Jan. 24, 2017—No. 4 St. Elmo/Brownstown defeats No. 5 South Central in quarterfinal action, 68-52, behind 23 points from Landon Feezel, 22 from Isaac Maxey, and 17 from Lewis Brown.
