The National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament got underway during the weekend.

 

In Friday games, South Central edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 38-32, St. Elmo/Brownstown won over Windsor, 42-28 and Altamont downed Neoga 39-18.

South Central took a 14-6 opening quarter lead but CHBC pulled back within 18-16 at halftime and moved ahead 27-26 going into the final period. South Central then got back on track with a 12-5 run to pull out the victory.

Logan Byers had 14 and Hudson Moore 13 for the winners.

CHBC was led by G. Hart with 25.

In Saturday's contests, North Clay (Louisville) bounced South Central 58-23, Sigel St. Michael edged Effingham Sacred Heart, 45-44 in overtime, Dieterich defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown 43-33 and Stewardson-Strasburg won over Altamont 33-20.

Games tonight in winner bracket play feature, North Clay against St. Michael at 6:15 p.m. and Dieterich facing Stewardson-Strasburg at 7:30.

In consolation bracket action Tuesday, South Central meets Sacred Heart at 6:15 and St. Elmo/Brownstown takes on Altamont at 7:30.

At Casey

Casey-Westfield edged Effingham 38-30 in seventh-grade basketball action Saturday.

Casey-Westfield ran off to a 14-2 opening quarter lead and led 21-4 at halftime. Effingham came back with a 26-17 second half, but not enough to make up for the first half deficit.

Niebrugge led EJHS with 12 points. The Mustangs fall to 7-12.

At Teutopolis

Teuotpolis tallied two victories over Jasper County Saturday.

In the seventh-grade game, T-town won 38-6 taking a 29-3 first half.

Kendal Mette scored 10 for the Shoes. Jasper County was led by Mulvey with three.

In eighth-grade action, T-town won 49-22. The Shoes led 35-9 at halftime.

Isaac McWhorter led the way for T-town with 15. Wolfe led Jasper County with 10.
