T-town Wins At Highland Tourney, C'land at LPC Tourney, Newton Falls at LIC Tourney

HIGHLAND -- Teutopolis High School won its opener at the 35th Annual Apex Network Physical Therapy Highland Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes downed Collinsville, 59-24.T-town edged out to a 14-9 opening quarter lead and led 32-15 at halftime. The Shoes had the game well in hand with a 21-5 third period.

The Shoes had three players finish in double figures. Kaitlyn Schumacher led the way with 18 points while Kaylee Niebrugge added 11 and Zoe Cremens 10. T-town hit seven three-pointers in the game led by Cremens with three and Niebrugge with two.

Emily Konkel and Schumacher led in rebounds with six each. Konkel had two steals. Isabella Hardiek led in assists with four and blocks with three.

In other games, Okawville downed Salem 55-19, Triad won over Belleville West 52-41, O'Fallon beat Hillsboro 70-52, Bethalo Civic Memorial trounced Belleville East 76-11, Breese Central defeated Nashvile 43-37, Alton won over Highland 59-36 and Breese Mater Dei beat Taylorville 50-20.

T-town will now meet O'Fallon at 8:30 p.m. today In other games today, Salem faces  Belleville West at 4, Collinsville takes on Hillsboro at 5:30 and Okawville meets Triad at 7.

At Cerro Gordo

Cumberland High School picked up a first round victory over Okaw Valley in the Lincoln Prairie Conference Tournament Saturday.

The Pirates handed Okaw Valley a 37-27 loss.

Cumberland took a 5-1 opening quarter lead and led 20-12 at halftime. Sage Carr scored seven in the second quarter while Zoe Mitchell had six.

The Pirates had an 11-4 third quarter as Abbie Becker connected for five. Okaw Valley came back with an 11-6 final quarter.

Carr and Mitchell led the way for Cumberland with 11 points each.

In other games Saturday, Villa Grove defeated Argenta-Oreana, no score reported, Cerro Gordo/Bement won over Arcola 60-49 and LSA pounded Blue Ridge 59-13.

At Paris

Four games were contested Saturday in the Little Illini Conference Tournament.

No. 1 Paris won on forfeit over Red Hill (Bridgeport). Robinson downed Mount Carmel 50-30, Marshall won over Lawrenceville 72-9 and Olney edged Newton 47-40.

One game is on tap for tonight, Lawrenceville against Casey-Westfield at 6 p.m.

The tourney continues Tuesday with Paris facing Robinson at 6 p.m. and Marshall against Olney at 7:30. Newton will be back in action Wednesday against the winner of tonight's contest.
