Wooden Shoes Shine in Win Over Wayne City

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes put on a sterling show Saturday afternoon in defeating the Wayne City Indians 91-53. The game in J.H. Griffin Gym was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

Teutopolis rained down threes in the first quarter in outpointing Wayne City 29-19 in the period. A 19-10 second quarter put the Shoes up 48-29 at halftime, but the third quarter was the topper. 

The Shoes concentrated on pounding the ball inside and outscored Wayne City 30-11 in the quarter to lead 78-40 heading to the final quarter. A 13-13 fourth quarter standoff led the 38-point win for the Shoes.

Teutopolis shot 57% from the field, 34 of 60, including 11 of 17 threes. The Shoes made 11 of 15 free throws, grabbed 26 rebounds, and committed just three turnovers. 

Wayne City is a good ballclub, making 21 of 42 shots, or 50%, including 5 of 13 threes. Wayne City made all six of their free throws, but grabbed just 15 rebounds and turned the ball over 17 times.

Teutopolis finished with four players in double figures in scoring, including James Niebrugge with 19 points, Brandon Niebrugge with 18, Caleb Siemer with 15, and Max Niebrugge with 14 points. Also for Teutopolis, Cade Buehnerkemper 9, Dylan Pruemer 6, and Mitch Althoff and Mitch Koester 5 each.

Taj McKinney with 21 points and Justin Durham with 15 points led the way for Wayne City, now 12-6 on the season.

Teutopolis is now 14-4 on the campaign.

The Shoes won the JV game 68-20.
