North Clay Defeats Altamont in NTC Play Friday

The North Clay Cardinals defended their home turf Friday night, defeating the Altamont Indians 64-53. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3. 

The game was a see-saw affair. North Clay led the contest 20-13 after one quarter, but a 20-14 second quarter edge pulled Altamont within 34-33 at halftime. 

The third quarter was a key period, as North Clay outscored Altamont 19-7 to pull away to a 53-40 advantage heading to the final quarter. Altamont outpointed North Clay 13-11 in the final quarter, but fell by 11.

North Clay shot 52% from the field, making 27 of 52 shots including six of nine threes. The Cardinals made 13 of 18 foul shots including seven of eight in the fourth quarter.

Altamont made 20 of 38 shots, 53%, including four of 15 threes. The Indians made nine of 12 free throws.

Altamont outrebounded North Clay 20-17, but the Indians turned the ball over 19 times to 12 turnovers for the Cardinals.

North Clay's Logan Fleener led all scorers with 27 points, while Bryton Griffy and Dakota Weidner each scored 15 points for the Cardinals.

Noah Klimpel led Altamont with 22 points, with Mason Robinson also in double figures with 12 points.

North Clay improved to 7-11 with the win, but the Cardinals are now 3-1 in National Trail Conference play. Altamont drops to 14-5 and is now 2-1 in NTC play.

Altamont won the JV game 54-30.
