TEUTOPOLIS -- With good second and fourth quarters, Teutopolis High School handed Monticello a 54-51 loss in boys high school basketball action Tuesday evening.

Monticello edged out to a 17-16 opening quarter lead but the Wooden Shoes had a 15-7 second period to lead 31-24 at halftime. The Sages came back with a 21-11 third period to lead 45-42.

The Wooden Shoes then put together a 12-6 final period to pull out a 54-51 victory.

Only one player scored in double figures for the Shoes. Caleb Siemer tallied 14 points. But two other players were on the verge with nine points each, Brendan Niebrugge and James Niebrugge.

Siemer led in rebounds with nine while Mitch Althoff had six.

At Teutopolis

At Neoga

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg broke a 9-9 opening quarter tie to edge ahead 23-22 at halftime. The Hatchets then had a 10-5 third period and held off Neoga's 17-14 final period surge for a 46-44 National Trail Conference win.

Samuel Vonderheide was the lone WSS player in double figures with 24 on eight field goals that included one three-pointer and seven of seven at the line.

The Hatchets improved to 1-1 in the conference, 15-2 overall.

Neoga was led by Paci McClure with 17 points on six field goals, one of those a three-pointer, and four of four at the line. The Indians fall to 1-3 in the conference, 10-6 overall.

WSS also was a winner in the junior varsity game, 46-38.

Windsor/Stew-Stras is back in action Friday at St. Elmo/Brownstown while Neoga returns to play Friday at Martinsville.

At Paris

Dieterich held on for a 54-51 non-conference victory over Paris Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 10-9 opening quarter lead as Caleb Gephart scored five points. The lead went to 27-20 at halftime. Gephart again scored five points.

Paris came back with a 14-12 third period to pull within 39-34 and then had a 17-15 final quarter but the Maroons held on for the win.

Four players scored in double figures for the Maroons. Gephart and Bryce Budde led the way with 12 points each while Andrew Lidy and Luke Westendorf chipped in with 11 each.

Dieterich plays host to Altamont Friday in National Trail Conference action.

At Shelbyville

Altamont improved to 11-4 on the season with a 55-39 non-conference win over Shelbyville Tuesday evening.

Noah Klimpel got the Indians off to a 13-10 opening quarter lead by scoring seven points. Altamont held a 27-19 hafltime lead.

In the third period, Altamont went on a 21-11 run to put the contest in the win column. Altamont connected on five three-pointers in the third period. Klimpel hit two while Mason Robinson had one and two of two at the line. Jared Hammer hit a regular basket and a three-pointer and Avery Jahraus had a trifecta.

Klimpel finished with 17 points to lead the Indians while Robinson added 11 and Hammer nine.

Altamont improved to 11-4 on the season and returns to action Friday with a National Trail Conference encounter at Dieterich.

Altamont captured the junior varsity game, 61-44. Jahraus and Kienon Eirhart led the way with 14 points each while Wyatt Phillips added 12 and Logan Cornett 11.

At Broadland

Cumberland came calling at Broadland Heritage and claimed an easy 66-27 victory Tuesday evening.

The Pirates ran off to a 28-3 lead behind eight points by Elijah McElravy and led 47-11 at the half. Jaxon Boldt knocked in four baskets while Gavin Hendrix hit three baskets and a free throw in the quarter.

Three players finished in double figures for the Pirates while six other players contributed. Boldt scored 14 while Hendrix added 11 and Trevin Magee 10.

At Broadlands

At Centralia

South Central improved to 12-5 with a 55-45 victory over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Tuesday.

The Cougars edged out to a 15-12 opening quarter lead and led 28-26 at halftime. South Central then put the game into the safety column with a 17-7 third period.

Aidan Dodson led the way with 26 points on 11 field goals, one of those a three-pointer, and three of three at the line. Keenin  Willshire chipped in with 19 on six field goals, one of those a three-pointer, and six of six at the line.

The Cougars won the junior varsity contest.

South Central will host Cisne Friday.

At Oblong

St. Elmo/Brownstown lost a heartbreaker Tuesday evening against Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville, 47-46 in overtime.

SEB held a 7-5 opening quarter lead and led 21-19 at halftime. The Eagles had a 9-7 third period to lead 30-26 

Then in the final period, Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville had a 10-6 run to tie the score, sending the game into overtime. 

In the overtime period, Gary Higginbotham hit a basket at the buzzer giving OPH the one point victory. He finished with 30 to lead the winners.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Brady Maxey with 13 and Caleb Campbell with 10.

SEB drops to 9-5 on the season. The Eagles play host to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Friday.
