DIETERICH -- The Dieterich Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament opened with six games Monday evening.

The opening contest found Dieterich downing Sullivan, 64-48. The Movin' Maroons trailed Sullivan 13-12 after the opening quarter but moved ahead 34-24 at halftime and held off the Redskins 30-24 in the second half.

Four players scored in double figures for the winners. Leading the way was Andrew Lidy with 21 while Pete Britton had 13 and Bryce Budde and Lucas Westendorf tallied 11 each.

In the second game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City defeated Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville, 74-60.

Jaden Robertson had an outstanding game for the Bobcats. Robertson connected on 14 field goals that included three trifectas and was nine of 16 at the line for 40 points. Also in double figures was Silas Buzzard with 10.

The Bobcats held a 36-26 halftime lead then had a slight 38-34 second half.

The third contest went to Red Hill (Bridgeport) over Arcola, 52-43.

CHBC then fell to Patoka, 47-45. Patoka leaped out to a 12-6 opening quarter lead and that was the contest as the two teams played pretty even the rest of the way.

CHBC was led by J. Robertson with 24 points on 10 field goals, two of those three-pointers, and two of two at the line.

In game five, South Central trailed Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville  25-24 at halftime but came back with an 18-9 third period and outscored OPH 19-6 in the final quarter for a 61-40 victory.

Aidan Dodson connected on 11 field goals, two of those trifectas, and one of two at the line for 25 points. Also in double figures was Spencer Johannes with 15.

The final game of the day featured a 52-48 win for Dieterich over Red Hill.

Red Hill held a 25-20 first half lead. But the Movin' Maroons came back to hold Red Hill scoreless while pushing ahead 37-25. Red Hill had a 23-15 final period but fell short.

Three players scored in double figures for the winners. Bryce Budde tallied 16 while Pete Britton and Andrew Lidy scored 10 each.

The tournament continues today as OPH meets Patoka at 11:30 a.m., Sullivan against Red Hill at 1 p.m., South Central taking on Patoka at 2:30, Arcola against Sullivan at 4, South Central facing CHBC at 5:30 and Dieterich meeting Arcola at 7.

Dieterich Girls Tournament

Dieterich opened its own tournament with a 49-11 win over Casey-Westfield in girls basketball action Monday.

The Movin' Maroons ran off to a 23-0 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Cortney Brummer scored 14 while Miley Britton added 10 for the winners.

In the second contest, South Central edged North Clay (Louisville), 51-50. North Clay held a 13-9 opening quarter lead and led 23-21 at halftime. The Cardinals were still in charge in the third period and led 35-32. But South Central came back with a 19-15 final quarter run to pull out the victory.

Halle Smith scored 23 for the winners on eight field goals, five of those from three-point land, and two of two at the line.

North Clay was led by Allison Czyzewski with 21 and Matia Price with 10.

Another exciting contest came in the third game of the day as Newton edged Brownstown/St. Elmo, 35-33.

BSE held a 19-18 halftime lead and led 28-26 going into the final period. But Newton came back with a 9-5 run to claim the victory.

The Eagles didn't have a player in double figures. They were led by Elley Bennett with eight.

BSE was led by Jayna Ireland with 12.

The fourth game went to CHBC over Casey-Westfield, 74-22. CHBC took charge early with a 23-8 opening quarter run.

Gracie Heckert scored 33 points on 14 field goals, five from three-point range. Lani Morrison added 16 on eight field goals.

Brownstown/St. Elmo came back in the fifth game with another close one, this time on its side with a 55-54 win over South Central.

BSE jumped out to a 25-7 opening quarter lead and led 44-37 going into the final period. South Central came back with a 17-11 final period but fell short.

BSE was led by A. Wilhour with 13 points and Laney Baldridge with 12.

South Central was led by Brooklyn Garrett with 22, Laney Webster with 11 and Taegan Webster with 10.

Dieterich then downed Arcola, 56-46 in the final contest of the day.

The Maroons held a 30-18 halftime lead. Arcola came back with a slight edge in the second half, 28-26.

Kaitlyn Boerngen led the way for Dieterich with 19 points on six field goals, two of those three-pointers, and five of eight at the line. C. Brummer tallied 15.

Today's schedule includes North Clay against Brownstwon/St. Elmo at 10 a.m. followed by Arcola taking on Casey-Westfield at 11:30, Newton against North Clay at 1 p.m., CHBC facing Arcola at 2:30, South Central against Newton at 4 and Dieterich meeting CHBC at 5:30.
