Altamont Wins At S-V Tourney; Neoga Splits At Monticello; C'land, T-town JV Lose At Vandalia

Altamont High School had an easy opening game at the Sesser-Valier Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament Monday.

The Indians ripped out to a 23-5 opening quarter lead and led 48-14 at halftime. Mason Robinson and Noah Klimpel led the Indians in the opening quarter with 10 and nine points respectively.

Altamont led 72-26 going into the final period. Fourteen Altamont players scored in the game. Klimpel led the way with 18 points on six three-pointers. Robinson and Jack Scott finished with 10 each. Robinson hit four baskets that included one three-pointer and was one of two at the line. Scott tallied his 10 on four baskets that included two three-pointers.

In other games: Johnston City 54, Sparta 50; Christopher 70, Century 31; Cobden 45, New Athens 43; Goreville 71, Galatia 34; Marissa-Coulterville 81, Waltonville 50; Sesser-Valier 68, Thompsonville 26 and Red Bud 66, Elverado 29.

Altamont will be back in action today against Marissa-Coulterville at 5 p.m.

Monticello Holiday Hoopla

Neoga opened play in the Monticello Holiday Hoopla and went 1-1 on the day.

In the opener, Neoga fell to Monticello, 51-37. Monticello stepped out to a 10-5 opening quarter lead and led 24-13 at halftime. Monticello had a 27-24 second half.

Neoga was led by Paci McClure with 12 points while Kaden Young added eight. Kyle Peters had two assitss. Dontye Perry had one blocked shot and three steals.

In the second game, Neoga tallied a 50-34 victory over Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.

The Indians ripped out to a 20-10 opening quarter lead. GCMS came back with a slight 10-9 second period to pull within 29-20 at halftime. Neoga then had a 21-14 second half.

McClure was the lone player in double figures for Neoga with 20. McClure connected on seven field goals that included three trifectas and was three of three at the line.Young, Peters and Luke Romack scored eight points each. Young had two assists while Romack had a blocked shot.

In other scores, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley won the opener 58-52 over Clinton, Tuscola defeated Oakwood, 62-42, Paxton-Buckley-Loda downed Colfax Ridgeview 58-48 and Monticello bounced Clinton, 63-24.

Vandalia Holiday Tournament

Cumberland and the Teutopolis junior varsity squad fell in opening round play at the Vandalia Holiday Tournament Monday.

Meridian claimed a 70-59 win over T-town in the third contest of the tourney.

Cumberland then lost to Okaw Valley by a 36-31 count.

Okaw Valley edged out to a 14-12 opening quarter lead but Cumberland came back to move ahead 18-16 at halftime. Okaw Valley came back with a 20-13 second half for the five-point win.

Cumberland was led by Gavin Hendrix with 13 points and Trevin Magee with nine.

In other games, Pana downed Shelbyville 74-39, Flora won over Father McGivney 70-59, Shelbyville downed Father McGivney 58-50, Pana defeated Nokomis 58-46 and Meridian beat Vandalia 89-82.

In today's contests, Cumberland takes on Vandalia at 9:30 and will meet Meridian at 5 p.m. T-town JV takes on Okaw Valley at 12:30 p.m.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was to start action at the Tri-County Tournament but DeLand-Weldon had to forfeit. 

In other games, Westville won over Argenta-Oreana 60-45, Paris downed Martinsvile 60-53 and Tri-County won over Chrisman 64-30.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will open play today against Chrisman at 1:30 p.m. and then take on Tri-County at 7:30.
