Altamont, South Central Nab Boys Victories

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School was almost in the same situation they were the last time they played. But this time around, the Indians claimed the victory by a 55-51 count over Hillsboro.

The Indians took a 12-9 opening quarter lead as Noah Klimpel and Mason Robinson knocked in a three-pointer each. But the Hiltoppers got on track hitting three trifectas in the second period and four regular baskets to take a 26-16 halftime lead.

Altamont came back with a 23-12 third quarter run to pull ahead 39-38 going into the final period. Robinson scored seven points while Klimpel had five and Will Schutlz hit a three-pointer.

In the final quarter it was a trip to the free throw line for the Indians. Altamont hit 10 of 21 free throws for a 16-13 run and the final four-point victory.

Robinson led the way with 18 points while Klimpel added 14.

The Indians are now 7-3 on the season.

In the junior varsity contest, Altamont was a 74-24 winner. Four players hit double figures. Dillan Elam scored 12 while Avery Jahraus and Eli Miller had 11 each and Wyatt Phililps 10.

At Martinsville

South Central was a 63-44 winner over Martinsville in a non-conference contest Thursday.

The Cougars trailed Martinsville by a 10-8 count after the opening quarter. But the Cougars leaped into action with a 24-8 second period run. Aidan Dodson got on a roll hitting three trifectas, a regular basket and a free throw for 12 points in the period.

South Central had a 17-14 third period. In the final quarter Keenin Willshire was hot from the free throw line connecting on eight of 10 and finished with 10 of 12 for the game. Willwhire tallied his 1,000th career point in the contest.

Dodson and Willshire were the one-two scoring punch with 22 points each. Dodson hit eight field goals that included three trifectas and was three of five at the line. Willwhire hit five field goals that also included two trifectas.

South Central is now 8-4 on the season.

The Cougars also won the junior varsity game, 41-34 and a freshman contest 48-14.
