Cumberland Downs WSS For Third At Girls Tourney

ARTHUR -- Cumberland High School downed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg to capture third place at the Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights Holiday Classic Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.

The Pirates edged out to a 12-9 opening quarter lead and then had an 18-7 second period run to lead 30-16 at halftime. Cumberland had an 18-13 third period.

The Pirates had two players finish in double figures. Zoe Mitchell led the way with 15 points while Sage Carr added 14. Both players hit three trifectas in the game. Abbie Becker added nine points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Ella Kinkelaar with 17. Kineklaar knocked in four thre-pointers and five free throws.

In the other games, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond claimed the championship with a 54-37 win over Mount Zion. Shelbyville downed Sullivan 61-44 for fifth place and Flanagan-Cornell defeated ALAH junior varsity 57-33 for seventh place.
