Cumberland Wins, WSS Loses In Girls Tourney

ARTHUR -- Cumberland picked up an opening round victory while Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg suffered a loss as the Knights Holiday Classic Girls Basketball Tournament got underway Tuesday evening.

Cumberland bounced Flanagan-Cornell by a 50-14 count. The Pirates held a 31-9 halftime lead and had a 19-5 second half.

The Pirates were led by Abbie Becker with 16 points and Zoe Mitchell with 15. Becker hit five field goals that included three trifectas and was three of four at the line. Mitchell connected on five fielld goals and five of six at the line.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond handed Windsor/Stew-Stras a 50-25 loss. No other information was provided.

In the final game of the evening, Mount Zion edged Shelbyville, 54-53.

Chrisman and Sullivan were to play the opener, but Chrisman dropped out of the tournament.

The tournament continues tonight with Cumberland facing Shelbyville at 6 in the new gym and Flanagan-Cornell against Mount Zion at 6 in the old gym. Sullivan meets ALAH at 7:30 in the new gym. Windsor/Stew-Stras was to take on Chrisman but that game has been canceled.
