Lincoln Beats EHS, St. A Falls To ALAH, Area Girls Roundup

LINCOLN -- Lincoln High School played host to Effingham in girls basketball action Friday and handed the Hearts a 57-29 loss.

Lincoln took a 13-9 opening quarter lead and then went on a 19-2 second period run to lead 32-11 at halftime. The Hearts played the Railsplitters even in the third period but Lincoln came back with an 11-4 final quarter.

The Hearts were led by Ella NIebrugge with 11 points. She was the lone player in double figures.

At St. Anthony

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond came to visit Effingham St. Anthony and picked up a 54-37 non-conference victory Saturday.

ALAH edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter lead and led 26-22 at halftime. ALAH then had a 21-5 third quarter run as A. Miller scored seven points and finished with 16.

Leading St. Anthony were Riley Guy with 14, Abbi Hatton with 11 and Lucy Fearday with nine.

In the junior varsity contest, St. Anthony was a 37-8 winner. Aydsen Rios led the Bulldogs with eight.

At Newton

Neoga ran off to a 17-1 opening quarter lead and downed Newton, 49-21 in a non-conference contest Saturday.

The Indians had a 16-5 second period and had a slight 16-15 second half edge.

Sydney Richards was the lone player in the contest in double figures with 14 for Neoga. Avery Fearday chipped in with nine.
Newton was led ay Amber Russell with six.

Neoga improves to 10-2.

At Olney

Teutopolis' Kaylee Niebrugge was on fire Saturday as the Wooden Shoes traveled to Olney.

Niebrugge got the Shoes off in the right direction by connecting on six field goals and a free throw for 13 of her team's 20 opening quarter points. Niebrugge knocked in three more baskets in the second quarter, two baskets and two free throws in the third period and two more baskets in the final quarter for 29 points. She hit 13 baskets and was three of four at the line.

Kaitlyn Schumacher chipped in with nine points and had two steals.

Niebrugge also had a stellar game in rebounds with 15 and had two assists. Isabella Hardiek pulled down seven boards, had two steals and two assists and Emily Konkel had two steals.

Altamont claimed a non-conference win over Moweaqua Central A&M in Saturday competition, 57-30.

The Indians held a 12-9 opening quarter lead and led 25-16 at halftime. Grace Nelson then got on a third quarter roll, scoring 12 points and the Indians moved ahead 44-25.

Nelson finished with 31 points on 13 field goals, one from three-point range, and two of three at the line. Peyton Osteen added nine points.
