North Clay Nabs Win At Conrad Allen Tourney

WAYNE CITY -- North Clay High School opened its stay at the 67th Annual Conrad Allen Boys Holiday Basketball Tournament with a victory Monday evening.

The Cardinals downed Grayville by a 79-34 count. North Clay ran off to a 28-9 opening quarter lead and led 52-13 at halftime.

Four players scored in double figures for the Cardinals. Dakota Weidner led the way with 16 points on seven field goals and two of two at the line. Bryton Griffy chipped in with 12 on six field goals. Logan Fleener and Alex Boose connected on five field goals each for 10 points.

In the second game of the evening Monday, Cisne edged Edwards County (Albion), 59-55 while Wayne City won over Sandoval, 86-57.

The tournament continues tonight with Cisne against Gallatin County at 5:30, Crab Orchard meeting Webber Township (Bluford) at 7 and Edwards County against Sandoval at 8:30.

North Clay doesn't play again until Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against Webber Township.

So far in the tourney, Wayne City is 2-0, Webber, Cisne and North Clay 1-0, Gallatin County, Edwards County and Sandoval 0-1 and Grayville 0-2.
