S. Central Wins At Hoosier Gym; EHS Falls Twice, Newton Wins

South Central High School handed Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville a 62-38 boys basketball loss at Hoosier Gym in Knightsbridge, Indiana Saturday where the movie Hoosiers was filmed.

The Cougars edged out to a 10-9 opening quarter lead and led by three points at halftime. South Central then went on a second half run with an 18-8 third quarter and a 22-6 final period.

Aidan Dodson led the Cougars with 20 points on nine field goals, one of those from three-point range, and one of three at the line. Also in double figures was Spencer Johannes with 14.

At Mahomet

Effingham High School fell to Mahomet-Seymour in Friday competition, 46-35.

In Saturday play, the Hearts competed in the Nokomis Shootout against Centralia and lost 42-29.

EHS is now 2-5 on the season.

 

At Flora

Newton edged Flora 51-46 in Saturday competition.

The Eagles took a 14-9 opening quarter lead and led 28-19 at halftime. Flora came back with a 27-23 second half only to fall short.

Mason Schafer led the Eagles with 14 points while Evan Schafer chipped in with 12.

The Eagles are now 7-1 on the season and will travel to Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday.

Newton won the junior varsity game.
