SIGEL -- Sigel St. Michael and South Central advanced in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday.

 

St. Michael handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a 41-6 loss in consolation bracket play.

In the other contest, South Central downed North Clay (Louisville), 47-39.

The two teams were tied at 11-11 in the opening quarter and 25-25 at halftime. South Central moved ahead with a 14-7 third period and had an 8-7 final quarter.

Garrett Shumate led the way with 14 points while Luke Shumate and Colton Cartright added 10 each.

North Clay was led by L. Griffy with 17 and L. Wolfe with 14.

St. Michael and South Central advance to the consolation championship Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

In games tonight, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City takes on Dieterich at 6:15 followed by Effingham Sacred Heart against Stewardson-Strasburg at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship game Thursday at 7:30 while the losers will meet for third place at 6:15 and the consolation championship will start the evening at t5 p.m.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony claimed two wins over Flora in competition Monday evening.

The Bullpups tallied a 41-29 win in the seventh-grade contest to improve to 9-7.

St. Anthony held a 20-12 halftime lead and had a 15-9 third period surge. Miles Waldhoff led the way with 16 points while Hayden Bushur and Graiden Wilhour tallied eight each.

in the eighth-grade cotnest, St. Anthony was a 49-26 winner. The Bullpups led 25-11 at halftime and that was the contest.

Three players hit double digits for St. Anthony. Henry Brent led the way with 15 while Aiden Lauritzen scored 13 and Coen Pennington 12. The Bullpups are now 12-2 on the season.

At Centralia

Effingham fell in the seventh-grade contest to Centralia but picked up the eighth-grade victory Monday.

The Mustangs trailed Centralia 23-18 at halftime. Centralia then had a 27-9 second half for a 50-27 victory in the seventh-grade contest.

Carter Braddy led Effingham with 15 points while Jake Niebrugge added eight. EJHS drops to 2-8.

In the eighth-grade game, Effingham was a 41-29 winner to remain unbeaten with a 10-0 record.

The Mustangs held a 10-2 opening quarter lead and led 22-13 at halftime.

Three players scored in double figures for the Mustangs. Cannon Bockhorn led with 11 while James Wise and Cole Phillips scored 10 each.

At Centralia

At Newton

Jasper County scored two wins over Red Hill (Bridgeport) Monday.

Jasper County won the seventh-grade game, 45-26.

Jasper County led 27-16 at halftime. Jacob Oldham scored 15 while Logan Burgener tallied 10 for the winners who improve to 7-4.

In the eighth-grade game, Jasper County was a 67-51 winner.

David Ferguson led the way with 22 points while Drake Wolf added 17 and Dexter Fulton 13.

Jasper County improves to 5-6.
