The St. Anthony Bulldogs overcame a 50-point performance by Altamont's super sophomore Grace Nelson to post an 86-70 win over the Indians.

The National Trail Conference at the Enlow Center was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.

St. Anthony shot 57% from the field, 34 of 60. The Bulldogs scored 53 points in the second half and didn't take a three-point shot. Pounding the ball inside was the secret to St. Anthony's success.

The first half never gave you a hint that the second half would get lopsided. Altamont and St. Anthony were tied 15-15 after one quarter, and Altamont outscored the Bulldogs 23-18 in the second period to lead St. Anthony 38-33 at the half.

The third quarter, as is often the case, turned the tide as St. Anthony outscored the Indians 31-9 to lead 64-47 heading for the final quarter. That final period was wild, as Altamont outscored St. Anthony 23-22 to account for the final score.

St. Anthony had four players in double figures, led by Riley Guy with 30 points on 10 of 18 shooting. Lucy Fearday had a big double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Grace Karolewicz scored 15 points on 7 of 14 shooting with nine boards. Abbi Hatten scored 10 points, all in the second half, along with six rebounds. Also for St. Anthony, Stacie Vonderheide scored four points, and Maddie Kibler scored three.

As for Altamont, Nelson had a massive game, scoring her 50 points on 14 of 26 shooting from the field and 20 of 25 from the foul line. Skylie Klein stepped up for 12 points for Altamont, all in the first half. Also for the Indians, Kylie Osteen scored six points, and Claire Boehm two.

In addition to shooting 57% from the field, St. Anthony made 15 of 22 foul shots, turned the ball over 20 times and pulled down 36 rebounds. They were three for nine on three point tries in the first half.

Altamont shot 40% from the field, 21 of 53, including 5 of 18 threes. The Indians made 23 of 30 foul shots, turned the ball over 15 times and grabbed 16 rebounds.

Altamont played the contest without another talented sophomore, Peyton Osteen, who is undergoing some tests, meaning the Indians couldn't utilize her 15 points per game.

St. Anthony improved to 7-2 with the win, while Altamont is now 6-3.

St. Anthony won an abbreviated JV game 29-5.
