Bulldogs Win In Shortened Girls Contest

Effingham St. Anthony HIgh School downed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 62-23 in a game that ended early in the final period due to an injury.

The Bulldogs took control early, moving into an 18-9 opening quarter lead behind Riley Guy's six points. Guy stepped to the free throw line for her first points, connecting on both free throws and reaching her 1,000 career point. She also hit two field goals. Lucy Fearday also tallied six points on three field goals.

The lead went to 42-11 at halftime. Fearday tacked on eight more points to hit 14 by  halftime. Guy also went into double figures before the half with five more points.

In the third period, the Bulldogs had an 18-12 score and led 60-23. In the final period, the Bulldogs had connected on a one field goal to move ahead 62-23 when St. Anthony's Izzy Hakman went up and came down hard, suffering an injury. The game was put on hold while Hakman was taken from the court and eventually the contest was called at 62-23.

Fearday finished with 20 points for the Bulldogs on 10 field goals while Guy tallied 168 on six field goals that included two three-pointers and two of two at the line.

Windsor/Stew-Stras had one player hit double figures. Ella Kinkelaar knocked in five field goals and was thre eof five at the line for 13 points.

St. Anthony was a 33-11 winner in the junior varsity matchup. The Bulldogs were led by Stacie Vonderheide with 13 and Cameran Rios with 10. Amparo  Martinez led WSS with six.
