Effingham moved into the championship game of its own Class 8-4A girls basketball regional with a victory Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs handed Taylorville a 34-18 loss in the first game of the evening.

In the second contest, Mount Zion defeated Mattoon, 23-11.

Top-seeded Effingham will now take on second-seeded Mount Zion at 6 p.m. Friday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional December 8.

 

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Effingham St. Anthony moved into the second round of the Class 8-2A Teutopolis Regional with a victory Tuesday.

The Bullpups easily tallied a 29-9 win over Red Hill (Bridgeport). St. Anthony led 6-4 after the opening quarter then had a 12-0 second period to lead 18-4 at halftime. St. Anthony again held Red Hill scoreless in the third period with an 8-0 run.

Macy Hoene led the Bullpups with nine points.

In the opening contest of the evening, Edwards County (Altion) defeated North Clay (Louisville), 47-5.

Thursday's games will feature Teutopolis against Dieterich at 6 p.m. followed by St. Anthony taking on Edwards County (Albion) at 7:15. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Sigel St. Michael advanced to the championship game of its own regional with a victory Tuesday.

The Sharpshooters downed Effingham Sacred Heart, no score was provided.

In the second game, Oakland Lake Crest forfeited to Neoga.

St. Michael will now meet Neoga at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Pana Sacred Heart Sectional December 8.

 

Class 3A Paris Mayo Regional

Cumberland upset top-seeded Robinson Nuttall in the Paris Mayo Regional Tuesday.

Cumberland, seeded fourth, edged Nuttall, 37-35.

In the second game, Marshall was a 36-26 winner over Paris Mayo.

Cumberland and Marshall will meet for the regional championship Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The winner advances to the Robinson Nuttall Sectional December 8.

 

Class 8-2A Madison Regional

This regional played Monday evening and will resume with Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City agaijst Brownstown/St. Elmo Thursday at 5 p.m. and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg against Altamont at 6:30. The winners advance to the championship game Friday at 5 p.m.
