FARINA -- South Central had three players hit double figures in a 60-43 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown as two National Trail Conference teams played Tuesday evening.

The Cougars were led by Ethan Watwood with 22 points while Spencer Johannes added 15 and Aidan Dodson 13 in the win. 

St. Elmo/Brownstown took a 16-12 opening quarter lead but the Cougars had a 15-7 second period to pull ahead 27-23 at halftime. South Central continued with the momentum taking a 16-12 third period and finished off strong with a 17-8 final quarter.

Watsood connected on eight field goals that included two three-pointers and was four of four at the line. Johannes added six field goals, one a three-pointer and was two of six at the line while Dodson hit five field goals, two of those from three-point range and one of two at the line.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Gavyn Smith with 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

 At Toledo

Altamont defeated Cumberland by a 41-32 count in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening.

The game looked like it was going to be a blowout as the Indians ran out to a 16-2 opening quarter lead. Noah Klimpel connected on two three-pointers while Mason Robinson had two baskets, Mason Winn and Will Schultz scored a basket each and Eric Kollmann contributed two free throws.

But it was Cumberland's turn in the second period as the Pirates came roaring back with a 15-2 count to trail by a point at halftime. Trevin Magee scored seven points in the quarter while Maddox McElravy, Elljah McElravy, Jaxon Boldt and Gavin Hendrix scored a basket each.

Then it flipped back to Altamont as the Indians had a 16-4 third period. Klimpel knocked in eight points while Kollmann contributed five.

Although the Pirates had an 11-7 final period run, it wasn't enough.

Klimpel finished with 19 points to lead the Indians. Kollmann chipped in with eight.

Cumberland was led by M. McElravy with nine points.

Altamont captured a 59-12 junior varsity win. Avery Jahraus tallied 23 points and Aden McManaway 11.

At Sullivan

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 4-1 on the season with a 57-33 non-conference win over Sullivan Tuesday evening.

The Hatchets took a 9-7 opening quarter lead and led 24-18 at halftime. WSS then had a 33-15 second half.

Samuel Vonderheide led the way with 14 points while Jordan Wittenberg and Austin Wittenberg tallied 12 points each.

Sullivan won the junior varsity contest 59-47 in overtime.

Stew-Stras is back in action Friday hosting Dieterich.

Neoga handled Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 73-46 as the two National Trail Conference teams met Tuesday evening.

The Indians edged out to an 18-10 first quarter lead as Paci McClure knocked in three trifectas and Quintin Richards also scored six on two field goals and two free throws.

In the second period, Neoga moved ahead 43-23 at halftime. McClure tallied 10 points while Richards added eight and Dontye Perry six.

Neoga had a 15-14 third period edge and finished out with a 15-9 final quarter.

Three players scored 20 points or more for the Indians. Perry finished with 23 points on eight field goals and seven of 10 at the line while McClure tallied 22 on seven field goals that included five three-pointers and was three of four at the line. Richards added 20 on eight field goals, two of those from three-point range, and two of seven at the line.

CHBC was led by Jadon Robertson with 22 points on seven field goals that included two three-pointers and six of seven at the line. Also in double figures was Silas Buzzard with 10.

Dieterich traveled to Cisne and brought home a 66-57 non-conference victory Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 21-15 opening quarter lead as Pete Britton connected on two three-pointers and a regular basket for eight points while Caleb Gephart added two three-pointers.

Dieterich led 33-28 at halftime. Bryce Budde contributed six points in the second period.

Cisne came back with a slight 19-17 third period edge to pull within 50-47 going into the final quarter. The Maroons then had a 16-10 final period as Budde contributed five more while Gephart added five.

Budde and Gephart led the way in scoring with 16 points each while Britton added 14.

Cisne was led by Atwood with 23 and Fetherling with 22.

Salem tallied a 48-43 non-conference victory over Newton in Tuesday evening action.

The Wildcats stepped out to a 16-8 opening quarter lead and led 26-17 at halftime. Newton had a 26-22 second half run but fell short.

Evan Schafer led the way for the Eagles with 22 points while Mason Schafer chipped in with 11.

Newton drops to 3-1 on the season.
