Effingham and Dieterich split victories in junior high boys basketball competition Monday.

 

Dieterich edged the Mustangs, 32-30 in the seventh-grade contest. EJHS held an 18-14 halftime lead and still led by that margin, 28-24 going into the final quarter. Dieterich came back with an 8-2 final period to pull out the victory.

Meinhart led the winners with 16 points.

Effingham was led by Carter Braddy with 16. The Mustangs drop to 2-5.

In the eighth-grade game, Effingham remained unbeaten with a 35-25 win.

The Mustangs trailed Dieterich 12-11 at halftime but moved ahead 22-18 going into the final period then had a 13-7 run.

Wyatt Hayes tallied eight while Cole Phillips had seven as eight players scored in the game. The Mustangs are 7-0 on the season.

Dieterich was led by Andrew Hall and Mason Lidy with eight each.

At Newton

Effingham St. Anthony came calling and picked up two wins over Jasper County Monday.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade contest, 41-38. St. Anthony stepped out to a 12-3 opening quarter lead and led 21-7 at halftime. Jasper County came back with a 31-20 second half but it wasn't enough.

Miles Waldhoff scored 22 for the winners while Will Bierman added nine.

Jasper County was led by Hayden Mulvey with 15 and Nolan Cleaver with 13.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 54-28 winner. The Bullpups stepped out to an early 20-4 lead and never looked back.

Henry Brent tallied 20 while Aidan Lauritzen added 16 and Coen Pennington 12. The Bullpups are now 11-0 on the season.

Drake Wolf led Jasper County with 11 points.
