Vandalia claimed a 30-24 victory over Effingham St. Anthony in seventh-grade boys basketball action Tuesday.

Vandalia took an 8-5 opening quarter lead and led 15-9 at halftime and 26-15 going into the final period.

St. Anthony had one player in double figures, Miles Waldhoff with 12. Graiden Wilhour chipped in with eight.

At Sigel

Sigel St. Michael downed Jasper County in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Tuesday.

The Sharpshooters won the seventh-grade contest, 34-25. St. Michael took a 19-7 opening half lead.

Mayer tallied 19 for the winners.

Jasper County was led by Logan Burgener with 13 and Hayden Mulvey with 11. Jasper County fell to 4-3.

In eighth-grade action, St. Michael edged Jasper County, 36-33.

The Sharpshooters led 20-12 at halftime. Jasper County came back with a 14-1 third quarter to move ahead 26-21 going into the final period. St. Michael then had a 15-7 run to pull out the win.

Worman tallied 13 and Mayer 12 for the winners.

Jasper County was led by Drake Wolf with 14 and David Ferguson with 12. Jasper County dropped to 3-4.

At Kinmundy

South Central and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split victories in action Tuesday.

South Central picked up the seventh-grade win, 31-28. South Central led 19-8 at halftime and 29-15 going into the final quarter. CHBC had a 13-2 run only to fall short.

South Central was led by Westin Neilson with 11 and Garrett Shumate with nine.

CHBC was led by R. Howell with 14 points.

In eighth-grade play, CHBC stepped out to a 23-9 halftime lead as A. Cosart and C. Schlanser scored nine points each over the two quarters.

South Central came roaring back with a 20-9 second half, outscoring CHBC 7-0 in the final period but still fell short.

CHBC was led by Cosart and Schlanser with 12 points each.

South Central was led by Neilson with nine and Luke Shumate with eight.
