EHS Wins at Bob Kerans, St. A at Robinson, CHBC Tourney Results

The Hearts stepped out to a 19-7 opening quarter lead and led 37-14 at halftime. EHS had a 14-2 third period.
Three players hit double digits for the Hearts. Meredith Schaefer led the way with 12 points while Ella Niebrugge and Madison Mapes tallied 10 each.
EHS had eight three-pointers in the contest led by Schaefer, Niebrugge and Mapes with two each and Saige Althoff and Coralin Ohnesorge with one each.
In the second contest, Altamont pulled out a 50-45 win over Newton in overtime.
The Indians held an 18-3 opening quarter lead and led 26-14 at halftime. Newton had a 29-17 second half run to knot the score at 43-43 sending the contest into the overtime session.
In the overtime, Altamont had a 7-2 run for the victory.
Grace Nelson led the way for the Indians with 29 points on 12 field goals and five of seven at the line. Kylie Osteen chipped in with eight points.
Newton was led by Ava Kessler with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five steals while Amber Russell added 10 points and nine rebounds. Alexis Hetzer, Elle Bennett and Brooke Schafer had five boards each. Russell had three assists and Schafer and Bennett two each. Russell had four steals and Schafer three.
Effingham leads the tournament in the standings after two days with a 2-0 record followed by Flora 1-0, Altamont 1-1, Vandalia 0-1 and Newton 0-2.
The tourney continues tonight with Vandalia against Altamont at 5, Effingham facing Flora at 6:30 and Newton taking on Vandalia at 8. The tourney will conclude Friday with Flora against Vandalia at noon, Altamont meeting Effingham at 1:30 and Newton taking on Flora at 3.

Robinson Thanksingiving Invitational
Effingham St. Anthony fell in its opening contest at the Robinson Thanksgiving Tournament Tuesday evneing.
The Bulldogs lost to Marshall, 65-45.
Marshall leaped out to a 17-4 opening quarter lead as Maya Osborn scored seven points. The Bulldogs didn't connect on a basket, scoring all four points on free throws.
Marshall pushed into a 31-9 first half. St. Anthony came back with a 23-21 third quarter and played the Lions even in the final period but couldn't make up that first half deficit.
Osborn tallied 29 for the winners while Adi Scott had 12.
The Bulldogs were led by Grace Karolewicz with 16 and Lucy Fearday with 15.
In the other game, Robinson downed Odin-Palestine/Hutsonville, 65-43.
The tournament continues Friday with St. Anthony facing Olney at 9 a.m. and Olney JV at 10:30 and Mount Carmel against Fairfield at noon in Session Two. In Session Three, OPH meets Fairfield at 5 followed by Robinson against Mount Carmel at 6:30 and Olney JV meeting Marshall at 8.
The round robin tournament finishes out Saturday.

CHBC Thanksgiving Tournament
The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Girls Basketball Tournament got underway Tuesday evening with four games on tap.
In the opener, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Ramsey, 44-41.
The Hatchets held a 12-9 openng quarter lead but had only a one point lead at halftime, 25-24. WSS had a 13-6 third period then held off a final quarter challenge by Ramsey to claim the win.
Sam Hayes scored 19 for the winners on nine field goals that included one three-pointer. Ella Kinkelaar added 14 on five field goals, one a three-pointer, and three of four at the line.
In the third game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City beat Cumberland, 38-31.
Cumberland held a 19-16 halftime lead but CHBC came back with a 22-12 second half for the seven-point victory.
Two players hit double figures for the Bobcats. Lani Morrison led the way with 12 points while Gracie Heckert added 11. Madison Wojcik chipped in with nine. Wojcik led in rebounds with 13 while Heckert pulled down 10. Wojcik also led in steals with three. Heckert and Summers had three assists each.
Cumberland was led by Katelyn Shoemaker with 12 points and Sage Carr with eight.
In the final game of the evening, Dieterich talied a 41-28 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo.
The Movin' Maroons ripped out to a 24-9 opening half lead and never looked back.
Kaitlyn Boerngen led the way for Dieterich with 19 points. She scored one basket in the first quarter then went on a tear in the second period, hitting four baskets that included three trifectas for 11 points. Boerngen finished with 19 to lead the Maroons.
BSE was led by Laney Baldrige with nine points on three field goals and three of five at the line.
In the second game, Red Hill (Bridgeport) downed Macon Meridian, 39-29.
The tournament continues Friday with two gyms busy. In the high school gym, Cumberland meets Macon Meridian at noon followed by CHBC against Red Hill at 1:30, WSS against BSE at 4 and Ramsey taking on Dieterich at 5:30. In the junior high gym, Dieterich meets WSS at noon followed by BSE against Ramsey at 1:30, Red Hill facing Cumberland at 4 and Macon Meridian against CHBC at 5:30.
