Teutopolis, Robinson Win At St. Anthony Tourney

Teutopolis High School captured the opening victory in the Effingham St. Anthony Thanksgiving Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes handled Rantoul, 69-42. The Shoes ran off to an 18-9 opening quarter lead as five players scored. Brendan Niebrugge knocked in three trifectas and was one of two at the line for 10 points.

Niebrugge then continued his three-point barrage with four in the second quarter for 12 points as the Shoes led 40-19.

The two teams played to a 16-16 third quarter before T-town had a 13-7 final period for the winning margin.

Niebrugge finished with 24 points on eight field goals that included seven three-pointers and was one of two at the line. Also in double figures were James Niebrugge with 12 and Kayden Althoff with 11.

In the second contest, Robinson picked up a 50-36 win over St. Anthony.

The Maroons took a 15-8 opening quarter lead and led 26-18 at halftime. Robinson continued with a 14-12 third period and held a 10-point lead going into the final period then had a 10-6 tally for the 14-point victory.

Robinson was led by Rylan King with 14 points, Nathan Wernz with 12 and Noah Gilmore with 10.

St. Anthony was led by Craig Croy with 12 points and Kyle Stewart with nine.

The tournament continues tonight as Mattoon faces Rantoul at 5 followed by Effingham squaring off against Breese Central at 6:30 and T-town faces Highland at 8.
