Wooden Shoes Nab Second Win At Salem, EHS Wins, Newton Falls

The Wooden Shoes handed Highland a 66-28 loss. Four players hit double digits in the high-scoring contest. Kaitlyn Schumacher led the way with 16 while Isabella Hardiek and Kaylee NIebrugge tallied 13 each and Emily Konkel finished with 12.
The Shoes hit six three-pointers with Hardiek, Niebrugge and Zoe Cremens knocking in two each.
The Shoes stepped out to an 18-9 opening quarter lead and led 32-15 at halftime and 54-25 going into the final period. Konkel and Schumacher had three steals each. Hardiek led in assists with three and had two blocks. Hardiek and Schumacher pulled down six rebounds each.
In a Friday game, Centralia won over Salem, 46-38. In other Saturday games, Highland defeated Centralia 50-39, Carterville downed Salem 65-41 and Carterville tallied a 49-28 victory over Centralia.
Standings are: Teutopolis 2-0, Highland 2-1, Carterville 2-1, Centralia 1-2 and Salem 0-3.
The tournament comes to a close Saturday with Teutopolis meeting Carterville at 1:30 p.m., Salem against Highland at 3 p.m., All-Tournament Team Recognition at 4:30 and Centralia against Teutopolis at 5.

At Effingham
Effingham High School downed Dieterich in its season-opener Friday evening, 47-32.
EHS edged out to a 12-9 opening quarter lead as Ella Niebrugge scored five. Meredith Schaefer then took over with a 12-point second period as the Hearts ripped off to a 31-13 halftime lead.
Schaefer finished with 18 points for the Hearts while Niebrugge also ended in double figures with 10.
Dieterich was led by Kaitlyn Boerngen with 15.

Newton High School traveled to Robinson and fell to the homestanders, 52-25.
The Maroons took a 22-10 halftime lead and never looked back.
Leading the Eagles was Elle Bennett with seven points and two assists, Alexis Hetzer with six rebounds and Lilly Kessler with five and Amber Russell with two steals.
Newton nabbed the junior varsity game, 39-26.
