The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest, 47-39. Effingham led 22-17 at halftime but Charleston came back with a 30-17 second half to pull out the win.
Nohren led Effingham with 16 points while Braddy added 10. EJHS dropped to 2-4.
In the eighth-grade game, Effingham tallied a 60-44 victory to remain unbeaten with a 6-0 record.
The Mustangs held a 29-26 first half lead then put it into high gear with a 31-18 second half.
Cole Phillips scored 23 while James Wise and Nolan Fearday had 10 each.

Effingham St. Anthony claimed the eighth-grade victory over Mattoon in Thursday play.
The Bullpups took an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 21-11 at halftime then had a 15-6 second half.
Henry Brent scored 16 for the winners while Aiden Lauritzen added 14.
No seventh-grade score was reported.

Stewardson-Strasburg and Sigel St. Michael split junior high boys basketball victories Thursday.
The Sharpshooters won the seventh-grade contest, 28-24. St. Michael held a 12-8 first half lead then had a 12-8 final period run.
Mayer tallied 16 and Niebrugge 12 for the winners. Stew-Stras was led by Wetherell and Bible with nine each. Stew-Stras drops to 5-3.
In eighth-grade action, Stew-Stras had a 29-10 second and third quarter for a 39-25 victory.
Sayers scored 19 and Beals 13 for the winners who improve to 4-4.
St. Michael was led by Worman with 10.

Dieterich and South Central both picked up a victory in Thursday evening play.
In the seventh-grade encounter, South Central was a 34-16 winner.
South Central took the early lead and never relented. Westin Neilson scored 15 to lead the way while Eli Hiestand added nine.
Dieterich was led by Niemerg with seven.
In the eighth-grade game, Dieterich took a 38-24 win. Dieterich trailed South Central 4-0 after the opening quarter but moved into a 16-10 halftime lead. Dieterich then went on a scoring third quarter run to lead 31-15.
M. Lidy scored 14 for the winners while B. Meyer added 10.
South Central was led by Hudson Moore with 12.

Teutopolis picked up two wins over Cumberland Thursday evening.
The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 19-9 first half lead and nabbed a 40-29 victory.
Jake Kocher scored 11 for the Shoes while Andy Lustig chipped in with nine.
Cumberland was led by Roedl and Venatta with eight each.
In the eighth-grade game, T-town ran off to a 14-3 opening quarter lead and tallied a 49-20 win.
Isaac McWhorter led the Shoes with 13 points while Gavin Buening added 11.
Cumberland was led by Bierman with 10.
