The NCAA women’s basketball tournament is expanding to 68 teams beginning with the current season, giving it the same number of teams as the men’s tournament as part of a gender parity effort.

The tournament expansion was one of the recommendations from an external gender review submitted in August after backlash over disparities in the men’s and women’s tournaments, including in weight rooms and other facilities.
