Effingham Junior High School played host to Mount Vernon Casey Zadok and captured both victories Monday evening in boys basketball.

The Mustangs outsored Zadok in all four quarters in the seventh-grade contest for a 34-25 victory. EJHS held a 13-11 halftime lead then had a 21-14 second half.

Two players finished in double figures for the winners, Reid Nohren with 14 and Carter Braddy with 10. The Mustangs are 2-0.

In the eighth-grade contest, Casey Zadok ripped out to a 17-4 opening quarter lead and led 24-15 at halftime and 34-25 going into the final period.  Effingham mounted a big comeback with a 20-6 final period to pull out the 45-40 victory.

Phillips tallied 12 for the winners while Bockhorn chipped in with 11. EJHS improves to 2-0.

At Sigel

Effingham St. Anthony tallied two wins over Sigel St. Michael in junior high action Monday evening.

The Bullpups won the seventh-grade encounter, 39-31. St. Anthony held a 6-2 opening quarter lead and led 19-12 at halftime. St. Michael remained in the contest but St. Anthony played even in the second half to tally a 39-31 win.

Miles Waldhoff scored 13 Gabe Looman 12 while Graiden Wilhour tallied 10 for the winners.

St. Michael was led by Bryce Niebrugge with nine.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony ran off to a 20-7 opening quarter lead and led 34-7 at halftime. The Bullpups improved to 2-0 with a 50-22 win.

A. Lauritzen scored 17 for the winners while H.Brent tallied 10.

The Sharpshooters were led by Davin Worman with nine and Alex Mayer with eight.

 At Dieterich

Dieterich and Jasper County split wins in junior high basketball Monday.

Jasper County scored a 27-19 win over Dieterich in the seventh-grade contest. Jasper County held a 12-8 first half lead then had a10-6 final quarter.

Hayden Mulvey scored 14 for the winners who improve to 4-0. Dieterich was led by French with 10.

In eighth-grade play, Dieterich tallied a 41-18 victory. Dieterich held a 22-13 halftime lead then had an 8-0 third quarter.

Lidy scored 15 for the winners while Hall tallied 12. Jasper County (3-1) was led by David Ferguson with eight.

At Sullivan

Stewardson-Strasburg picked up the eighth-grade win but Sullivan scored a victory in the seventh-grade contest Monday.

Stew-Stras ran off to a 10-0 first quarter lead in the eighth-grade game but Sullivan came back with a 9-1 second period run to pull within 11-9. Both teams scored eight in the third period before Stew-Stras put the game away with a 12-5 final period for a 31-22 win.

Sayers scored 20 for the winners and improved to 1-2.

In the seventh-grade game, Sullivan was a 36-32 winner. Again Stew-Stras took a lead in the opening quarter but Sullivan came back to lead 18-16 at halftime. Sullivan then had an 18-16 second half for the 36-32 win.

Pruemer led Stew-Stras with 10 points as the squad dropped to 3-2.
