BROWNSTOWN -- Sigel St. Michael and Brownstown/St. Elmo will square off for the championship of the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament after picking up victories Thursday evening.
St. Michael defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 36-14 in the opener.
The Sharpshooters led 20-9 at halftime and had a 16-5 second half. St. Michael was led by Hatton with 11 points and Jordan with nine.
CHBC was led by Haley Doty with six.
In the second contest, BSE edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 25-23.
WSS stepped out to a 12-6 opening quarter lead but BSE came back to pull within 15-14 at halftime. BSE then had a 7-2 third quarter run but WSS came back with a 6-4 final period only to fall short.
D. Haslett led the winners with 18 points.
Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Hayes with 10. The team is now 7-6 on the season.
St. Michael will take on Brownstown/St. Elmo Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for the championship. CHBC will face WSS at 10:15 for third place.
Tonight's games feature North Clay against Neoga at 5:30 followed by Effingham Sacred Heart against Altamont at 7:15. The winners advance to the consolation championship game Saturday at 9 a.m.
