Bulls, Nets Start Postseason

(Brooklyn, NY) -- The Chicago Bulls begin the first round of the postseason on the road against the Brooklyn Nets Saturday. The Nets host the first two games of the best-of-seven series. Chicago, as the five-seed, hosts Game Three on Thursday and Game Four on Saturday, April 27. And, if necessary, Game Six will also be in Chicago on May 2.

 

Three Out As NBA Coaches

Lawrence Frank, Byron Scott and Doug Collins are out as NBA head coaches. Frank and Scott were fired by Detroit and Cleveland respectively. The Pistons finished 11th in the Eastern Conference this season at 29-53. The Cavaliers finished last in the Central Division at 24-and-58. Collins resigned with one year left on his contract. He will stay on in an advisory role.  The Sixers finished 34-48 this season.

 

New Orleans Hornets Officially Become Pelicans

(New Orleans, LA) -- The New Orleans Hornets are now the Pelicans.  First announced in January, the name change from the Hornets to the Pelicans became effective at the end of the 2012-13 regular season. The first official business as the Pelicans will come on May 21 when the team participates in the draft lottery after completing a 27-55 season.


Fired Rice Gets Settlement From Rutgers

(New Brunswick, NJ)  --  Fired men's basketball coach Mike Rice is getting a $475,000 settlement from Rutgers University. The school announced the compensation agreement Thursday night. Rice had two years left on his contract, but was fired April 3 after ESPN aired video of him physically and verbally abusing players in practice.
