EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's basketball Head Coach Brian Barone has announced the promotion of Jacob Whitehead to Graduate Student Assistant/Video Coordinator.

"I am extremely excited to continue with this staff in this expanded role," Whitehead said. "Belief is a powerful tool, and the belief that Coach Barone and the staff has shown in me is very humbling. This is a great staff, with a ton of experience. I am very grateful to be able to learn and work with them and our players every day."

"Jake has been with me my entire time at SIUE," Barone said. "Simply put, he is a worker and he is loyal.  These two qualities are what makes him special on and off the court.  Our program is moving in a positive direction and Jake is a big reason why. He has a 'Find A Way' mindset that makes our program better."

Whitehead's new duties will include assisting in the formation of scouting reports, film breakdown, assisting with self-scouts as well as film exchange with opposing teams. Whitehead will oversee the student managers, as well as head up the team's social media efforts. From 2017-2020, Whitehead served as a student manager for the basketball program.

The native of Flora, Illinois, graduated from SIUE with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. Whitehead is currently pursuing a master's degree in physical education and coaching pedagogy at SIUE
