The New York Knicks’ Tom Thibodeau was named Monday as NBA Coach of the Year, in balloting by a panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.

Thibodeau, who’s in his first year with the Knicks, got them to the playoffs for the first time since 2013 and to their second-best record in 20 years. New York lost to Atlanta in the first round in five games.

Thibodeau also won Coach of the Year with the Chicago Bulls in 2011.

Daryl Morey, 76ers Fined

The Philadelphia 76ers and team president of basketball operations Daryl Morey were both fined $75,000 Monday night for a tweet by Morey last week about Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry that the NBA said violated anti-tampering rules.

Morey tweeted, “join ‘em,” with a picture of an Instagram post by Curry about his brother, Seth Curry, of the 76ers. Morey said in a following tweet he was “talking about the fact that we are thrilled [Seth Curry] is here with the @sixers -- nothing else!” But that wasn’t good enough for the league.
