Lillard Ties NBA Playoff Record For Three-Pointers

Portland’s Damian Lillard made eight three-pointers in the first half of Game 2 of the Trail Blazers’ first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets Monday night, tying an NBA playoff record for most in a half.

Toronto’s Vince Carter had eight three-pointers in the first half against Philadelphia on May 11, 2001. Overall, Lillard had 32 points in the first half, and finished with 42 points, but it wasn’t enough for Portland, which lost to the Nuggets 128-109. 

 

Clarkson Winner of Sixth Man of the Year Award

Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz was named the winner of the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award Monday, beating out teammate Joe Ingles.

Clarkson, the only player to come off the bench and score 40 points in a game this season, got 65 of the 100 first-place votes by a panel of NBA reporters.

 

Connecticut Coach Suspended

The WNBA said Monday that Connecticut Sun head coach Curt Miller was suspended for one game and fined $10,000 after making a comment to a game official about an opposing player’s weight.

Liz Cambage of the Las Vegas Aces said in Instagram story that during’s Sunday’s game between the teams, Miller was trying to get a call from an official and said about her, “Come on, she’s 300 pounds.”

Cambage noted she’s 6-feet-8 and 235 pounds and said, “I will never let a man disrespect me.” Miller apologized before his punishment was announced, saying, “I regret what I said in the heat of the moment and want to sincerely apologize to Liz and the entire Aces organization.”
