CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School downed Charleston in Apollo Conference boys basketball action Tuesday evening, 77-40.

The Hearts ripped out to a 20-8 opening quarter lead as Nathan Thompson scored eight points while Jacob Stoneburner tallied six. Garrett Wolfe and Parker Wolfe knocked in a three-pointer each.

In the second quarter, P. Wolfe and Thompson connected on six points each in the second period while G. Wolfe hit another three-point shot and the Hearts were up 40-12.

P. Wolfe went on a tear in the third quarter, hitting three trifectas and putting in a free throw for 10 points.

EHS finished out with a 23-10 final period. Four players scored in double figures for the Hearts. P. Wolfe finished with 25 points while Thompson added 24. P. Wolfe hit eight field goals that included six three-pointers and was three of five at the line. Thompson scored on 11 field goals and two of three at the line.

Stoneburner added 15 points while G. Wolfe chipped in with 12.

In junior varsity play, Effingham claimed an 84-46 victory. The Hearts were led by J. Volpi with 26, A. Donaldson with 12 and E. Ritz with 10.

At Neoga

The score was tied at 11-11 after the opening quarter before Altamont moved into a 25-19 halftime lead.

The Indians led 40-32 going into the final quarter and had a 15-9 run and went on for a 55-41 win over Neoga Tuesday evening.

Altamont had only one player in double figures but nine players scored in the contest. Kaden Eirhart finished with 16 on six field goals that included one three-pointer and three of three at the line.

Derick Budde added nine points while Noah Klimpel and Brenny Abendroth added seven each. The Indians are now 6-2 in the National Trail Conference and 12-5 overall.

Neoga was led by Kaden Young with 18 and Paci McClure with 12. Adam Fearday chipped in with nine.

Altamont edged Neoga, 31-28 in junior varsity action. Altamont was led by Mason Robinson with nine points.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown connected on 56 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line in a 74-49 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

The Eagles ran off to a 17-6 opening quarter lead and led 30-18 at halftime. SEB then had a 44-31 second half.

Three players hit double digits for the winners. Caleb Campbell led the way with 16 points while Gavyn Smith added 13 and Jace MCWhorter 11. Ean Forbus was a point away at nine.

Campbell also led in rebounds with six, had four assists, four steals and two blocked shots. Smith had five rebounds while McWhorter had two steals. Forbus had five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Brady Maxey had five rebounds. The Eagles had 12 team steals.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led by Jadon Roberts with 17 points and Silas Buzzard with 11. Daniel Lucas led in rebounds with 10 and had a blocked shot. Robertson had two assists. Seth Doty had two steals.

Teutopolis pounded Mahomet-Seymour, 63-36 in action Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes ran off to a 13-2 opening quarter lead and led 31-19 at hafltime.

Evan Wermert led the Shoes with 26 points as nine players scored. Wermert connected on nine field goals that included six three-pointers and was two of two at the line.

Evan Addis and Matthew Deters added eight points each. The Shoes connected on 11 three-pointers in the game.

Wermert also had five rebounds and four assists. Jordan Hardiek had four rebounds and five assists. Deters added five rebounds.

Dieterich picked up a 50-38 non-conference victory over Okaw Valley Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 14-12 opening quarter lead as Andrew Lidy and Pete Britton scored five points each. Dieterich held a three-point lead at halftime then kicked it into high gear with a 21-3 third period run. Pete Budde connected for 10 points on four baskets, including two three-pointers. Jack Westendorf added six.

Dieterich had three players hit double figures. Budde led the way with 15 while Kuhl added 11 and Westendorf 10.

Cumberland's Brennyn Cutts broke the all-time career three-point field goals made record as the Pirates trounced Farmer City/Blue Ridge, 57-14 Tuesday.

Cutts scored 13 points for the Pirates and hit three trifectas in the contest to move into the lead in the record books. Also in double figures for Cumberland was Wyatt Napier with 14.

The Pirates held a 34-4 halftime lead.

South Central picked up a 58-45 non-conference win over Patoka Tuesday.

The Cougars held a 24-12 halftime lead. Patoka came back with a 15-12 third quarter to pull within 36-27 but the Cougars found the range in the final period with a 22-18 run. Collin Miller hit five free throws and two baskets for nine points in the quarter. He finished with 23 to lead South Central. Miller connected on eight field goals, including two three-pointers and was five of six at the line.

Also in double figures was A. Dodson with 11 and Watwood with 10. The Cougars are now 11-3 on the season.

South Central's junior varsity also won.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg fell to visiting Martinsville, 45-41 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday.

The Bluestreaks held an 18-13 opening quarter lead but WSS came back with a 16-8 second period to lead 29-26 at hafltime.

The Hatchets led 37-36 after the third period but Martinsville came back with a 9-4 final quarter to pull out the win.

Samuel Vonderheide was the lone WSS player in double figures with 14. Austin Wittenberg and Gavan Wernsing chipped in with nine each.

Windsor/Stew-Stras drops to 6-10 on the season.

The Hatchets won the junior varsity game 50-27.
