Altamont Downs S. Central, Neoga Falls To Olney

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School played host to South Central and tallied a 60-46 National Trail Conference victory in boys basketball Monday.

The Indians and Cougars were tied at 13-13 after the opening quarter. Noah Klimpel scored seven points and Kaden Eirhart five for Altamont. Collin Miller had five for South Central.

Altamont then had a 14-8 second period to lead 27-21 at halftime. Eirhart connected on two baskets and three free throws for seven points while Klimpel and Mason Robinson had a three-pointer each.

The Indians kept the momentum after half time with a 20-12 third quarter run to lead 47-33. Four players scored four points each for the Indians while Keenin Willshire went to work for South Central with two three-pointers and two regular baskets for 10 points.

In the final period, South Central played Altamont even at 13-13 only to fall by a 60-46 count.

Altamont was led by Eirhart with 17 points on four field goals and seven of seven at the line while Klimpel contributed 14 on five field goals and one of two at the line.

South Central was led by Willshire with 18 points on six field goals and four of six at the line. Miller added 14 on four field goals and five of eight at the line.

Altamont picked up a 42-38 junior varsity win over South Central. Jared Hammer and Mason Robinson scored 10 each. South Central was led by Spencer Johannes with 16 and Ethan Watwood with 13.

At Olney

Neoga traveled to Olney and fell to the homestanders, 54-43 Monday evening.

Olney leaped out to a 12-2 opening quarter lead but Neoga came back to pull wtihin 21-14 at halftime. The Indians were within striking distance at 34-28 going into the final period but Olney had a 20-15 run for the winning margin.

Neoga was led by two players in double figures. Paci McClure led the way with 22 points, scoring 19 in the second half. He hit eight field goals that included three trifectas and was three of three at the line.

Also in double figures was Adam Fearday with 12 points.
