Riley Guy and Lucy Fearday provided the big scoring as Effingham St. Anthony tallied a 69-57 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in girls high school basketball Monday.

Guy and Fearday got the Bulldogs off to an 18-16 opening quarter lead as the pair produced nine points each. Guy connected on a three-pointer and three regular baskets while Fearday hit three baskets and was three of five at the line.

The Bobcats hung close, however, with seven points from Gracie Heckert while four other players scored.

St. Anthony kept the offense rolling with a 17-11 second quarter to lead 35-27 at halftime. Guy continued her hot streak with three baskets and four of five at the line for 11 points.

Guy tallied seven in the third period and Grace Karolewicz connected on a three-pointer and a free throw and Fearday hit eight and the Bulldogs held a 54-40 lead going into the final period.

CHBC made a comeback bid with a 17-15 final run but couldn't pull off the win.

St. Anthony's Guy finished with 11 field goals, that included two three-pointers, and was six of 11 at the line for 30 points. Fearday hit seven field goals and was seven of 11 from the free throw line for 21 points.

Leading CHBC was Heckert with 22 points on eight field goals, including a three-pointer, and five of five at the line. Carsen Burks and Mackenzie Bunch tallied 10 each. Heckert led in rebounds with eight and M. Bunch had seven. Sydney Lorton led in assists with three. CHBC dropped to 2-5 in the National Trail Conference, 4-6 overall.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity contest, 45-19. Stacie Vonderheide had 23 for the Bulldogs. CHBC was led by Shae Nohren with five.

At Neoga

Neoga improved to 11-2 on the season with a 58-35 victory over North Clay (Louisville) Monday.

The Indians moved into a 24-19 halftime lead then had a 16-6 third quarter run.

Kylee Phillips led Neoga with 15 points and had seven rebounds while Sydney Richards chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Audrey Ramert added 10 points.

Neoga is 5-1 in the National Trail Conference and will play host to South Central Wednesday.

North Clay was led by Maddison Lovett with 18 points on five field goals and seven of 11 at the line.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg broke a 13-13 halftime tie with a 15 point third period and tallied a 38-29 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Monday.

Mikala Nichols scored two baskets in the first quarter and had six by halftime. She then doubled her point total in the third period while teammate Ella Kinkelaar nailed three trifectas for nine points.

The Hatchets then had a 10-4 final quarter. Kinkelaar tallied four more points and finished with 15 to lead the Hatchets. Nichols finished a point behind with 14 on seven field goals.

BSE was led by Natally Beall with seven points.

At Dieterich

Altamont lit up the gymnasium from three-point range and tallied a 77-37 victory over Dieterich in Monday action.

The Indians connected on a total of 10 three-pointers, six coming from Brooke Runge. three in the final quarter. Grace Nelson chipped in with two while Peyton Osteen and Brianna Grunloh had one each.

The Indians held a 26-21 halftime lead. The three-point fireworks revved up in the third quarter as Nelson and Runge hit two each and Osteen nailed one and the Indians moved ahead 54-33. Runge then tallied three more in the final period in the Indians 23-4 run.

Nelson scored 27 points on 10 field goals and five of five at the line while Runge hit nine field goals and was one of two at the line. Also in double figures was Osteen with 10.

Dieteich was led by Kaitlyn Boerngen with 14 points on five field goals, that included two three-pointers and was two of two at the line.

In junior varsity play, Dieterich downed Altamont, 38-19. Dieterich was led by Morgan Esker with 14 points. Altamont was led by Grace Nelson with nine.

At Newton

Marshall tallied a Little Illini Conference win over Newton Monday, 51-35.

The Lions took a 28-20 halftime lead. Newton came back with a 13-10 third period to pull within 38-33 but Marshall went on a 13-2 final quarter tear.

Newton was led by Whitney Zumbahlen with 11 points on four field goals that included a three-pointer and was two of two at the line. Ava Kessler pulled down nine rebounds while Zumbahlen had four. Allison Einhorn had four assists and Zumbahlen three. Zumbahlen also had two steals.

Newton drops to 2-3 in the LIC, 5-6 overall and returns to action Thursday traveling to Olney.

Marshall edged the Eagles 33-31 in the junior varsity contest. Newton was led by Morgan White with 11 and L. Kessler with 10.

Wayne City tallied a non-conference win over South Central Monday evening, 59-44.

Wayne City edged out to a 25-20 halftime lead then had a 34-24 second half. Wayne City hit four three-pointers and was 13 of 18 from the free throw line.

Two players scored in double figures for South Central. Halle Smith led the Cougars with 14 points while Sydnee Garrettt added 12.
