Teutopolis Girls Edge Effingham, 38-35

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School trailed Effingham through the first half, tied the score in the third quarter and had a 12-9 final period to pull out a 38-35 girls basketball victory Monday evening. The game was heard on 979 XFM.

The Hearts took a 9-8 opening quarter lead as Annie Frost connected on two baskets and Sawyer Althoff hit a basket and a free throw. T-town's leading scorer, Lexie Niebrugge, was held in check by the Hearts, scoring only two free throws while missing six attempts from the field. Kaylee Niebrugge knocked in two baskets.

Meredith Schaefer hit a three-pointer and a free throw and the Hearts had a 10-9 edge to lead by two points at halftime.

The Wooden Shoes came back with a 9-7 third quarter to tie the score at 26-26. Emily Konkel scored four points and Isabella Hardiek three. Taylor Armstrong led the Hearts in the quarter with five points.

L. Niebrugge then got into the game with a vengeance, hitting a three-pointer and scoring four of four from the gratis stripe. Zoe Cremens also hit a key three-pointer and the Shoes had a 12-9 run to pull out the victory.

L. Niebrugge was the lone T-town player in double figures with 12. Hardiek chipped in with seven points and led in rebounds with six. The Shoes hit only 27 percent from the field but tallied 69 percent from the free throw line.

The Hearts were led by Frost with 10 points and eight rebounds. Armstrong added nine points. EHS hit 36 percent from the field and 60 percent at the line.
