SIGEL -- Effingham St. Anthony claimed a seventh-grade boys basketball victory over Sigel St. Michael Friday and was a winner over Vandalia Saturday.

In the win over St. Michael, St. Anthony held a 20-4 halftime lead and had a 23-16 second half.

Lauritzen and Brent tallied 10 points each for the Bullpups.

In Saturday action, St. Anthony won both the seventh- and eighth-grade contests.

In the seventh-grade game, St. Anthony pounded Vandalia, 56-14. The game was over by halftime as the Bullpups led 31-9.

Lauritzen tallied 24 for the winners while Brent added 17.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony was a 47-33 winner and improves to 8-2 on the season.

At Effingham

Effingham handed Mattoon two losses Saturday.

The Mustangs claimed the seventh-grade contest, 47-23 outcoring Mattoon 28-12 in the first half and 15-2 in the third quarter.

Phillips led Effingham with 18 points while Hayes, Wise and Flack had six each. EJHS improves to 6-3 on the season.

In the eighth-grade contest, Mattoon stepped out to a 25-5 opening quarter lead and led 17-10 at halftime. The Mustangs came roaring back with a 12-5 third period and outdistanced Mattoon 10-3 in the final quarter for a 32-25 victory.

Effingham was led by Flack with 17 and Belcher and Jones with seven each.

At Marshall

Teutopolis scored in the 40-point range for both games and downed Marshall Saturday.

T-town won the seventh-grade game, 41-18 with a 17-6 opening quarter and a 32-7 halftime lead.

Joey Probst scored 16 for the winners. The Shoes are a perfect 10-0.

In eighth-grade play, T-town was a 43-27 winner. The Shoes led by four after the opening quarter then had a 28-11 run over the second and third periods.

Jacob Hoene scored nine, Alex Kremer eight and Henry Thompson seven for the Shoes who improve to 8-1 on the season.
