St. Anthony, WSS, South Central Nab Boys Basketball Wins

DIETERICH -- Effiingham St. Anthony doubled its score in handing Dieterich a 60-30 loss in boys high school basketball Wednesday.
The Bulldogs had an 11-point lead at halftime then poured it on in the second half with a 23-14 run. Craig Croy tallied five points in the first half then got the hot hand in the third quarter, connecting on five field goals that included two three-pointers, for 12 of the 21 points. Kennan Walsh also had a big quarter, scoring seven points.
Croy finished with 17 for the contest while Walsh chipped in with 16.
Dieterich was led by Pete Britton with 12 points.
The Bulldogs then claimed a 44-15 win in junior varsity play. Kyle Stewart had 10 points for St. Anthony. Andrew Wente led Dieterich with four.
St. Anthony also claimed a freshman/sophomore victory, 49-27. Collin Westendorf scored 19 for the winners. Curry led Dieterich with eight.

At Beecher City
Three players hit double figures as Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 57-49 Wednesday.
Samuel Vonderheide, a 6-foot-1 junior, led the way for the Hatchets with 18 points while Gavan Wernsing added 13 and Jordan Wittenborg 10.
WSS held a 32-21 halftime lead then held off the Bobcats in the second half.
The Hatchets improved to 4-5 on the season.
CHBC was led by Robertson with 16 and Buzzard with nine.
Windsor/Stew-Stras also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 56-28. The Hatchets are back in action Friday at St. Anthony.

At Waltonville
South Central came calling and claimed a 54-42 non-conference win over Waltonville Wednesday.
The Cougars held a 14-8 opening quarter lead as Collin Miller hit two three-pointers and had eight points in the quarter.
Ethan Watwood stepped up in the second period with seven points on three baskets that included a trifecta. The Cougars held a 29-25 halftime lead.
Both teams had trouble scoring in the third period and South Central held a 36-30 lead going into the final quarter. From there, the Cougars took off again with an 18-12 run. This time around it was Keenin Willshire who got the hot hand scoring seven points with two baskets that included a three-pointer and two free throws.
Willshire finished with 15 points to lead the Cougars while Miller and Watwood had 12 each.

Shelbyville edged Moweaqua Central A&M, 38-34 in Wednesday evening competition.
The Rams zipped out to a 14-9 opening quarter lead and led 22-13 at halftime. Central A&M cut the lead down to three going nto the final quarter and the Rams held on for the win.
Leo Logue tallied 18 to lead the Rams while Braden Nichols added 10.
