Altamont Edges Neoga, Boys Area Roundup

NEOGA -- Altamont High School had a big scoring final quarter and pulled out a two-point victory over Neoga Tuesday in boys high school basketball, 61-59.

Neoga edged out to a 15-13 opening quarter lead as Kaden Young tallied nine points, hitting three baskets that included two three-pointers and a free throw.

On the other side of the court, Noah Klimpel kept Altamont close with seven points on a three-pointer and four of four at the line.

Neoga then went on an 11-2 run to lead 26-21 at halftime. In the third quarter, Neoga had an 18-15 edge to lead 44-36 going into the final quarter. Paci McClure scored seven points.

Altamont then made a big comeback with a 25-15 run to pull out the two--point win. Kaden Eirhart, who had been held to three points through three quarters, cut loose with a three-pointer, three two-pointers and a free throw for 10 points. Klimpel added a three-pointer and two free throws while Mason Robinson connected on two big three-pointers. Also hitting a trifecta was Brennyn Abendroth.

Klimpel tallied 20 to lead Altamont while Eirhart finished with 13.

Neoga was led by McClure with 21 points and Young with 12.

In junior varsity play, Altamont won 46-28. Will Schultz led with 10 points while 11 players scored. Neoga was led by Quintin Richards with seven.

At St. Elmo

Dieterich came calling and picked up a 57-39 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday.

The Movin' Maroons ran off to a 17-7 opening quarter lead and led 34-13 at halftime.

Jack Westendorf led the scoring attack with 18 points on eight field goals and two of four at the line while Pete Britton chipped in with 16 on seven field goals that included two three-pointers. Bryce Budde contributed 15 points on five field goals, including two three-pointers and was two of two at the line.

Westendorf pulled down 12 rebounds and had a blocked shot. Britton and Budde had three assists each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Jace McWhorter and Jarrett Pasley with seven points each. The Eagles missed eight free throws.

Ean Forbus led in rebounds with five. Brady Maxey had three assists.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg trailed North Clay (Louisville) by 18 points at halftime but came back in the third quarter with a 22-7 run and went on for a 50-47 victory Tuesday.

Austin Wittenberg and Gavan Wernsing tallied 13 points each for the Hatchets while Sam Vonderheide chipped in with 11. The Hatchets improve to 3-5 on the season.

North Clay was led by Ethan Bible with 14 and Logan Fleener with 12.

North Clay claimed a 55-35 win in junior varsity action.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis fell to Lincoln in action Tuesday evening, 49-34.

The two teams played to a 7-7 opening quarter tie before Lincoln moved ahead 15-11 at halftime. The Railsplitters then had an 18-10 third period.

Lincoln had three players in double figures led by Singleton with 20 while Hullinger and Whiteman had 12 each. The Railsplitters hit 14 of 14 free throws while T-town had seven attempts and made four.

T-=town was led by Jordan Hardiek with 11.

Newton High School nabbed a 48-41 victory over Lawrenceville in action Tuesday evening.

The two squads were knotted at 14-14 after the opening quarter but Newton came back with a 16-7 second period run to lead 30-21 at halftime.

The Eagles were outscored 8-7 in the third period and 13-11 in the final quarter but the second period held up for the win.

Evan Schafer led the Eagles with 18 points while Aaron Einhorn added 14.  Schafer got the Eagles off in the right direction with a nine point opening quarter while Einhorn had an eight point second period.

Tuscola came to town and handed Shelbyville a 63-54 loss in action Tuesday evening.

Tuscola edged ahead 18-17 in the opening quarter but Shelbyville moved into the lead 34-28 at halftime.

Tuscola then had a 23-11 third period and that was the game.

Four players hit double figures for Tuscola. Hardwick tallied 18 followed by Hatfield 16, Quinn 15 and C. Cunningham 14.

The Rams were led by Kade Kull with 23 and Braden Nichols with 12.
