Effingham split victories with Charleston in junior high boys basketball competition Saturday.

 

The Mustangs claimed the seventh-grade contest, 47-28. Charleston held an 8-4 opening quarter lead but Effingham came back with a 10-2 second period count to lead 14-10 at halftime. The Mustangs continued on with a 33-18 second half for the 47-28 victory.

Phillips led EJHS with 15 points. The Mustangs improve to 4-3.

In eighth-grade action, Charleston captured a 44-32 win. Charleston held a 26-15 halftime lead.

Effingham was led in scoring by Flack with 16 and Belcher with 11.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony picked up seventh- and eighth-grade victoies over Taylorville Saturday.

In the seventh-grade contest, St. Anthony claimed an easy 68-19 win.

The Bullpups held a 23-2 opening quarter lead and led 43-12 at halftime.

Four players hit double figures for the Bullpups. Lauritzen led with 24 while Pennington and Griffith had 11 each and Brown 10.

In eighth-grade action, St. Anthony was 45-42 winner.

The Bullups trailed Taylorville 13-8 after the opeing quarter and 25-20 at halftime. The margin was still the same going into the final quarter, 32-27. St. Anthony then took over the contest, outscoring Taylorville 18-10 for the three-point victory.

Link tallied 19 for the Bullpups.

At Lawrenceville

Jasper County fell to Lawrenceville in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Saturday.

Lawrenceville won the seventh-grade encounter, 49-22, taking a 28-10 halftime lead.

Jasper County was led by Drake Wolf with 11 points. Jasper County fell to 1-5.

In eighth-grade play, Lawrenceville ran off to a 20-3 opening quarter lead and finished with a 48-24 victory.

Lain Burgener led Jasper County with 10 points. Jasper County is now 3-3 on the season.

At St. Elmo

North Clay (Louisville) handed St. Elmo/Brownstown two losses Saturday.

North Clay claimed the seventh-grade game, 30-21. North Clay held a one-point lead at halftime then took a 10-4 third quarter and finished out with the nine-point win.

Compton tallied 11 for the winners. SEB was led by Poe with 10.

In the eighth-grade game, North Clay was a 41-10 winner. North Clay held a 25-2 first quarter lead. 

North Clay was led by Griffy with 12 and Groves and Zimdars with nine each.

At St. Elmo
