EHS, T-town, Neoga, Dieterich, Altamont Claim Friday Wins

MOUNT ZION -- Effingham HIgh School's Nathan Thompson and Parker Wolfe were the one-two scoring punch as the Hearts defeated Mount Zion, 69-46 in Apollo Conference boys basketball action Friday.

Thompson scored 24 while P. Wolfe added 23. Both tallied eight points in the opening quarter 19-9 run and came back to score eight points each again as the Hearts pushed their lead to 42-26 at halftime.

Thompson tallied eight in the third period and Wolfe seven to finish their scoring for the contest.

Mount Zion did not have a player in double figures. Hamrock led the way with nine.

The Hearts moved their record to 8-0 in the Friday competition.

In junior varsity action, Effingham claimed a 72-50 win. Jett Volpi led the way with 26 points while Ethan Ritz chipped in with 14.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis High School had a big opening half and went on for a 77-44 victory over Taylorville Friday.

The Wooden Shoes led 21-13 after the opening quarter then had a 19-9 second period run.

Jordan Hardiek, a 6-foot-1 senior, led the Wooden Shoes with 26 points while Evan Wermert tallied 15 and Evan Addis 11. The Shoes connected on 16 three-pointers as Hardiek hit eight. Addis chipped in with three and Wermert added two.

Max Niebrugge had a whopping 15 assists and finished with six rebounds. Matthew Deters also had six rebounds.

At Strasburg

Neoga edged Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 39-33 in National Trail Conference play Friday.

The Indians held a 7-4 opening quarter lead and led 14-12 at halftime. The Hatchets came back with a 16-15 third quarter to pull within a point going into the final period. But Neoga got back on track with a 10-5 run for the victory.

Neoga was led by Paci McClure with 18 points. He connected on six field goals that included two three-pointers and was four of six at the line.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Samuel Vonderheide with 11 points. The Hatchets drop to 1-5 on the season.

Neoga claimed the junior varsity contest, 50-32.

At Dieterich

Dieterich went on a scoring binge in taking a 65-32 non-conference victory over Oblong Friday.

The Movin' Maroons jumped out to an 18-7 opening quarter lead and led 30-10 at halftime. Dieterich continued with a 35-22 second half.

Four players hit double figures for the winners. Garrett NIebrugge led the way with 17 points while Andrew Lidy added 14, Cory Gephart 13 and Jack Westendorf 10.

Britton had four three-pointers and Gephart added three.

At Cowden

Kadan Eirhart tallied 30 points as Altamont tallied a 76-49 National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday.

Eirhart got the Indians off in the right direction with a 12 point opening quarter while Brennyn Abendroth scored seven points. Altamont held a 42-26 halftime lead. Eirhart scored nine more points in the second period.

CHBC came back with a 15-9 third quarter but Altamont finished out strong with a 25-8 final period.

Eirhart hit 11 field goals that included five three-pointers for his 30 points. He was three of three at the free throw line. Abendroth chipped in with 17 on six field goals and five of eight free throws. The Indians improve to 3-0 in the conference, 5-2 overall.

CHBC was led by Jadon Roberts with 13 points on six field goals and one of two at the line.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity contest, 52-20. Leading the way was Eric Kollman with 10 points for Altamont. CHBC was led by Radloff with eight.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond came calling in a non-conference contest and claimed a 65-50 win over North Clay (Louisville) Friday.

ALAH edged out to a 21-14 opening quarter lead but the Cardinals came back with four points at halftime, 30-26. North Clay then had a 12-10 third quarter to pull wtihin two points. But ALAH had a 25-12 final period.

North Clay was led by Alex Boose with 13 points and Logan Fleener with 11. Boose hit four field goals and two of those were from three-point range.
