Big Second Quarter Guides St. A Past SEB

A big second quarter was a key to a win by the St. Anthony Bulldogs Friday night. The Bulldogs defeated the St. Elmo/Brownstown Eagles 62-30 in action at the Enlow Center on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. 

St. Anthony went on a 17-0 run after the mandatory timeout in the second period on the way to a 23-5 margin for the quarter, and the Bulldogs led 42-18 at halftime. That spurt came after SEB came back at the end of the first quarter to pull within 19-13. It was 52-25 after three quarters, and the Bulldogs posted a 10-5 margin in the final period.

St. Anthony made 54% from the field, 25 of 46, and that's despite making just one of 12 three-point tries. That means the Bulldogs hit 24 of 34 two-point tries. The Bulldogs turned the ball over just seven times and grabbed 31 rebounds.

St. Elmo/Brownstown made 35% of their shots, 13 of 37, including 3 of 10 threes. The Eagles made their only foul shot of the game, turned the ball over 18 times, and had 17 rebounds.

Both teams played their entire roster. St. Anthony finished with three players in double figures; Seth Hotze with 13, Grant Nuxoll with 12, and Craig Croy with 11. Also for the Bulldogs: Kennan Walsh 7, Logan Antrim and James Schuette 6 each, Mick Willenborg 4, and Ty Wiedman 3. Nuxoll led with 8 rebounds, while Hotze had 7.

Jace McWhorter led SEB with 8 points. Also for the Eagles: Gavyn Smith 6, Brady Maxey 5, Ean Forbus 4, Jarrett Pasley 3, and David Stine and Caleb Campbell 2 each. Smith led with 5 rebounds.

St. Anthony improved to 4-1 on the season, while SEB is now 2-3. 

St. Anthony won the JV game 65-47. St. Anthony had three players in double figures: Will Hoene 18, Kyle Stewart 13, and Eli Levitt 10.
